Message 2079719 - Posted: 11 Jul 2021, 12:52:26 UTC - in response to Message 2079707.

Yes, now I have a bunch of completed SETI tasks from March 6, 2020 to July 21, 2020. These are at the top of my BOINC manager and I can't get rid of them. Can you turn on the appropriate servers for a few days to clear these from my manager. I am not concerned about the missed credit.

Sorry, but the servers needed for picking up new results are very likely never to be turned on again in their present form: I very much suspect that the present results database is not going to be updated with any further new results...

For your pending results: Best is to have your boinc manager discard them.

Meanwhile, the 'offline' database is being analyzed with the steadily developing Nebula system. (Note that is very much a work in progress and a development of the analysis itself!)

Next will come something new from what has been learnt from the 20+ years of this experiment and our grand search!

Watch for news...

We don't have to even speculate about this: your work units can be seen in your hosts. Every one of them already timed out due to non-completion and the ones I checked were reassigned to others, completed and closed off. So even if you could submit them, they would not do anything now. May as well save some disk space in the BOINC client: click the Projects tab, then click SETI@Home and then Remove and confirm. This will remove all the now-useless work units and SETI@Home project data. You can always re-add it if it comes back. I'd bet my last dollar it ain't coming back, at least not in this form.

Thanks,

I removed SETI from the BOINC Manager which cleared up all the hanging results. Now SETI is no longer available for reloading to the manager. However, what is important is that the SETI results are still present in all the statistics reports. Which I want to keep for historical reasons.

Download your certificates and for good measure, take a screenshot of your results page?

I'm sure s@h will be kept online for some time yet but eventually the project must move on if only for the sake of the constraints of funding.

And no doubt further new searches will be done with renewed knowledge!

We apparently received a signal from Alpha Centauri. Is anyone analyzing that and if so, what have they found out about the signal?

Could you please explain where you learned about this reported signal from Alpha Centauri ? I'm sure everyone here would be interested, if such a signal has been received. Thank you.

added- Could you be referring to the candidate signal received from the Parkes Observatory in Australia, in December, 2020? If so, please see the linked article from the SETI Institute. They reported, quite some time ago, that this signal was ascribed to Earthly interference. Many similar signals were discovered, when the telescope wasn't aimed at Alpha Centauri. A convincing case was made for this conclusion.

Dear all,

It's been more than three years since the first post in this thread. Is SETI@Home still considered "in hibernation" ?

When a bear hibernates, it is expected that it will eventually wake up and spring back to life.

Should we expect the same from SETI@Home ? Any positive news on that front ?

Best regards,

Samuel

Thanks for a good question.

s@h has a large fantastic userbase of enthusiasm...

There are some reobservations planned on the Chinese FAST...

After that?... Who knows if a new researcher jumps onboard with a new grant?...

Next week? Or next decade?? (Or next never?)

Meanwhile, we have life on the forums still.

If you read this line from the original post:

We hope that other UC Berkeley astronomers will find uses for the huge computing capabilities of SETI@home for SETI or related areas like cosmology and pulsar research. If this happens, SETI@home will start distributing work again. We'll keep you posted about this.

I take that to mean it would require a new team to ressurect the project. It seems highly unlikely it would return in the same format. Personally as it was never really a "green" project, in that it kept thousands of computers running when they shoould have been idle, I for one would not rejoin if it did start up again.

You mentioned that you are processing the current results of the project. Is there a possibility of the project starting up again by looking at a different portion of the sky?
If that is a possibility, when is a projected startup date?
And with the damage and decommissioning of the arecibo radio telescope, if the SETI program is brought back, what telescope will be used in it's place?
Thanks in advance

I just thought of S@H for unknown reason and came here to see what the current status was and was a bit surprised to see it shut down in 2020. Oh well, it is what it is. First joined S@H with Classic back in 1999 and miss the old Classic screensaver over the Boinc one anyway. Going to search and see if I could get the old classic screensaver running on my MiniPC and MacBook Pro (Win VM) just for the screensaver. Perhaps just crunching the same work over and over. Wow, 23 years. The height of S@H for me was when I use to use S@H to kind of benchmark machines back when I built dual-P3’s. Anyone still using S@H just as a screensaver? Anyone using Classic (or one developed based on it) as such? It’s be a really cool screensaver under Raspbian and other Linux-derived RPi OS’s…

When are you SETI guys (and gals) gonna get this thing up and running again? I mean, c'mon! It's been three years! I liked seeing the data analyzed from SETI on my computer as a screensaver! It seems none of the other projects available on BOINC have that functionality.

Hello I was attempting to resume my participation to this project by reinstalling BOINC but it seems to be over now.

Since this "end" topic has been open since 2020....any news from the results you analysed????
