I joined SETI in 1999. At one time, I had five machines running (I know, not much compared to the big guys, but, even this was electrically spendy). Recently, I have two quad-core machines with taskable GPUs and I was rockin' pretty good. Now, both SETI accounts sit idle, so sad. Both machines are now running Einstein@Home, but, they really want to return to SETI!! BOINC is a great idea and brotherhood. Rock on, my international friends.

Well, that's it for me. I just uploaded my last completed work. It seems a little funny to not be checking in on my cranky old machines to be sure things are still running. 20 1/2 years, it was a good run

Farewell for now, but I'll be checking in occasionally to see if something is going on

I had hoped to be finished long before now, but still chewing on some gristledata.

Does anybody know: why did the tasks sent out recently tend to have much higher initial replications?

The additional Tasks for each Workunit have been sent out in order to try to get the Canonical Results back more quickly.

If you have a look at your Tasks in Progress, you can see which ones are actually Still Needed

You will still get Credit for Valid Results that are returned before deadline, but SOME of them may have already been Validated.

It's up to you whether you want to continue crunching WU's that are already validated, if you have already started them, you might as well complete them for the Credit, but it would be useful to Prioritize any that are still awaiting Validation.

[Edit]
I just had a look at your In Progress WU's

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=3949350541
Is still waiting for a valid result, your only other In Progress task that I could see is already validated. Depending on how many Cores you are using for SETI, try to prioritize 18se10ag.8607.15302.4.31.56_2

Hi Sanya,
We all worked on a noble, even spiritual, task: deeply hopeful, finally logical, full of ancient human wonder, and many of us will work on it again if we have the opportunity. The feeling now seems to be that our galactic neighborhood is not teeming with electro-mechanical civilizations, but we still don't know. It is early days in the search. We just don't know when it will be successful.
Clearly, this work is useful to lonely, thinking creatures like us!
Best Regards,
Rich

You have already been contributing every time you processed a WU that had a BLC prefix

https://breakthroughinitiatives.org/contacts/breakthrough-listen may be helpful.

It's finally happened: my system stopped receiving new tasks from the Server, since April 20th 2020.
It's been a long road since I've first learned of SETI, back in the Summer of 1998. The PC was a brand new Pentium III 450MHz, with a - then - fancy SCSI disk, and whopping 256MB of RAM. It was magical to see the colorful graphics on the screen, and to imagine: is there anybody out there?
A lot has past since that day. I used every possible OS for PCs (and the eventual Hackintosh). I changed my computer setup over a hundred times. Moved six times (until I got a mortgage). Changed not just jobs but my profession (twice). Got married (16 years and counting). Dad died (10 years ago), two dogs and a cat aren't among us anymore neither.
But, during this time, my desk and lamp stood the same, and so did my screensaver: almost 22 years of SETI. Although I changed the display half a dozen times.
Sure there are other projects to dedicate our hardware to crunch (some pretty pressing, like Covid), but I'll miss Seti. Not just the philosophy about it (is there anybody out there?), but the cool color graphics - who looked real slow in 1998, not so much on a GTX1080 in 2020.
I would like to thank everybody who was involved in the project, for such a long run. Hope to hear about the results soon.
As a farewell, I would like to leave a gift for everybody who, as myself, miss Seti: a video of the final 30 minutes of my tasks, from 2020-04-24 10h42m05s (GMT -3).
Best regards, Paulo Feitosa. Curitiba-Brasil.

Ugh. I joined in 1999 when it took my 14400 baud modem an hour to download each work unit and more than a week to process. This is so very sad to see.
I wonder if anyone has done a statistical analysis about how long we should look before questioning if there is intelligent life out there.

Well that's it, I'm done, the last task returned.

My S@H memorial stone will read

26 May, 1999 - 17 May, 2020
ad astra per aspera

The project will still be open on my computer, but I doubt I'll see the tasks again, though hope springs eternal.

Thanks to all involved and to my fellow crunchers, I hope to see you on other projects.

Cheers

Yesterday, I completed my last work units for this project (for the foreseeable future).
For the first time in almost nineteen years I can no longer see the screensaver. I miss it already.
Thank you all for the great memories.
