Well who would have guessed my last wu is a astropulse on my slowest computer. When its done it gets a win 10 os and new tasks. Live long and prosper. Don't pick your nose.

Sad to hear of the end of SETI@Home. I've been crunching numbers since May 15, 1999 with Windows NT and dial-up.

I don't think I've ever posted here, but figured I'd add a sign-off, "I was here, once." I'm pondering other projects to donate to now, but really liked the SETI@Home mission.

Einstein@home really uses your pc ram. All of it if you let it on some work units but it doesn't seem to cause a lot of heat in the cpu even though all cors at 100%

On my Linux box, this is my CPU RAM:

              total        used        free      shared  buff/cache   available
Mem:            23G        5.6G         16G         24M        1.0G         17G

This is with 3xGPUs each running 1 task, and 11 CPU tasks running.

On the Windows box, again the RAM usage seems reasonable:

Total Physical Memory:     12,271 MB
Available Physical Memory: 6,920 MB
Virtual Memory: Max Size:  24,559 MB
Virtual Memory: Available: 16,731 MB
Virtual Memory: In Use:    7,828 MB

This is with 4 CPU tasks, 2xGPUs, and my normal "daily driver" stuff running on Win10Prox64.

Note:
I only run the Gamma-Ray Pulsar Searches on CPU and GPU.
The Gravity Wave stuff is indeed a "heavy hitter" in resource needs.
Perhaps that's what you're referring to?

40min for 2,000 Credits is forever? Yes especially when actually I think it was 10 and 2 running on the gpu's watching them and trying to see any progress. the gpu tasks went measurably well. The credits are not given until validated so I showed 0 credits for 24 hrs

Been a long run. In the early days, it would take almost a week to crunch 1 task with a single core CPU. The last (used) computer I bought has 2 CPUs for 16 cores / 32 threads and can get thru 150 tasks in about a day.

I did use a pentium 75 with 128meg edo ram many years ago. It took about 32 days to do a w/u. Just managing the deadlines in those days. I even tried an pentium 60. Only once tho.

Hmm.
P75 8W, plus system requirements, say 50W (old HHDs and RAM really sucked up the power).
Ryzen9 3950X (16c/32t) 105W, say 150W for the entire system (more likely a fair bit less).

3 times the power, however the processing output would be hard to determine- If your P75 took 32days to do a WU on the old applications, it would probably take a couple of months to do just one now (if not longer)
The output from just a single thread of the 3950X would finish most Tasks in 45min or so, and it's got 32 threads available.
The Ryzen 9 might have higher power costs, but the amount of power used per Task processed would be minuscule compared to an old P75.

Yup I agree. Nobody would want to try a P75 now. I did try a dual socket 370 a while ago with a pair of tualatin's 1400. Still painfully slow. Most of the old machines are now useless for most things.

Its a shame seti is going. It was always a good project for low resource machines. But there are other projects also less needy on ram etc.
A 32 thread machine...... it is tempting - one day.

I am running an Einstein GW task on a Linux Virtual machine hosted on my Windows 10 PC. It uses 25% of the 8 GB RAM on a Ryzen 5 1400 CPU. OS is OpenSuSE Tumbleweed updated today to kernel 5.6.0-1.

Hi all. I want to ask a question here about BOINC. I still have Seti@Home running and as of this writing I'm still getting WU's done. My question is I added Rosetta@Home through the tools tab in BIONC. When I re-boot only Seti@Home is in the list of projects, this happens on both PC's. I did use a different password from Seti. Ideas since I can't ask on the Rosetta fourm due to no WU's processed. Thanks and I'm glad to see that Seti is getting on with the next phase of the project.

Virtual box isn't needed there either.
I used a different password when attaching to Rosetta. No problems.
Go to their web site & see if you now have an account there. From memory Rosetta didn't show up on my computer till i got some work, and they are mostly out of work at present, although i did manage to pick some up an hour or so ago.
