I have read the Berkeley Online News article on the optical PANOSETI project. There is no mention on who or what will process the huge stream of data provided by telescopes with 80 mirrors each. Will it be done by a distributed volunteer computing effort like SETI@home or by some supercomputers? I think the second hypothesis is more likely.

On March 31, the volunteer computing part of SETI@home will stop distributing work and will go into hibernation.

Well I have been on SETI since 199x? It is so long nowthat I cannot remember, in fact I even lost my old account when BOINC came around and forgot how to log in or merge it over...

Been a hell of a ride, I still have a PIII laptop processing data for SETI and I decided to sign off now using it, because I first signed on using it!

Shows how much we have done since then, and how technology has advanced... I think it is incredible that I could use the same PC throughout the entire 20 years! Only SETI continued to support and use hardware from the day it started!

Message 2041056 - Posted: 28 Mar 2020, 12:40:40 UTC - in response to Message 2040135.

Would someone be able to clarify if they have or have not been analyzing anyone of the WUs that we've been crunching? If they haven't been analyzing any of the data why weren't they?

I quite agree....what have the admins/researchers/backoffice staff been doing with all the results that have been reported. Some sort of basic analysis must have been done, otherwise, what has this project been for?

It would be nice if (at some point soon) someone can give a precise run down on what the project has achieved over the last 20 years (apart from helping to warm peoples rooms, from all the heat generated) and any technical and analysis reports that have been generated.

I understand your reasoning, but I've been participating with SETI @ Home since I got my first Mac 5200 back in 1993. (Or was it '94? I don't even remember now.) The screen saver was a comforting old friend over the years. I may be personifying SETI @ Home too much, but I'm going to really miss it. It was the first program of it's sort that I ever ran.
R.I.P. SETI @ Home.
Later 'taters.

Berkeley.
I was just finished putting 4 machines together and discovered Seti was shutting down. I just had solar system installed on home will be online in mid April. The plan was to keep my bill down to run full tilt on Seti. They are being very vague as to when and if it will comeback.

Very sad news that Seti@Home will close their data ports...
Been a member since Sept 1999, but it feels like I was a member longer than that. Still a LOOOONG time. I had a Pre-BOINC client going on my computers.
I remember when I did night shift computer support at a plant, We had a Windows 2000 Server, and over several years, I installed the "hidden" version of S@H on just about every computer in the company!
Just a quick question, What project is the closest to S@H? Einstein@Home?
I want to switch to something, but would like to keep looking for ET's.
Thx all!

it was a great run. i can't tell you how many people have asked me about my "cool screensaver" over the years, and how it led to countless in-depth conversations about ET and the universe as we know it. best of luck with your analyses, and I hope to crunch some data for the project again soon.

There aren't any others looking for ET's :(

Eisenstein@Home is looking for pulsars and assorted gravity waves only its not looking for intelligent signals too like Astro Pulse is/was.

There are a number of biology/life/medicine projects out there.

But nothing that is looking for ET.

I would be glad to be wrong. Let us know if you find one!!!!!
