Tom you are correct about E@H, I've crunching there full time for many years. From the little I've done so far, MilkyWay seems pretty well behaved, and has both CPU and OpenCL work. Just beware the N-Body tasks, as one task takes all CPU cores and threads at once. Surprising, if you're not expecting it. |

Oops...... We're excited to finish up our original science project, and we look forward to what comes next. It should be new search with new types of patterns and new freq. bands. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

Well, I hope SETI boards will alive still. Would be good if SETI core team will still post updates from time to time on Nebula or alternative SETI projects. And maybe some volunteer involvment would be still possible in some new form. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

Question about how BOINC works: If you set projects with a resource share of zero, does it ignore them until you enter a higher number even if it'll end up idle or does it first look at any with a higher share but if there's no work from those it asks for work from zero-share ones too? |

My limited experience seems to indicate it will not download any "0" resource projects until the system runs out of competing projects. This is with Einstein@Home set to "0". I am sorry, I don't have in info on the polling when it is set for "0" and has competing tasks. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

It has occurred to me that after the Staff gets done with the analysis that DA has written about (eg. Look for ET and produced one or more Paper(s) on quantifying the sensitivity of the search/data analysis) that a much-reduced version of the project running on a much smaller set of servers processing only the AstroPulse tasks might be do-able. The point would be to provide something more to be analyzed that doesn't turn into a massive time sink for the S@H staff. It seems to me that AP provides more general science results as well as supporting ET searching https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ap_faq.php . I wonder if it would be possible for a select # of higher-end volunteers to perform "splitting" out in the field? This would take a considerable load off the servers but increase the amount of bandwidth consumed shuttling the raw, unsplit data over the Internet. BTW: Wouldn't in make sense (besides of the fact that some people & ressources are needed for maintenence :) to keep Astropulse alive ? Greetings Seneca 0=0 Per Aspera Ad ETI .. 0=0 |

So does this mean there will also be no more BOINC updates? If there will be, where do we go to get them? I've always your website.......... |

I built 3 rigs just for crunching SETI@home, the last of which was completed right after Christmas and puts out about 200k credits worth of work every day. This really does bum me out. I figured the work had to change at some point, I just didn't guess it was going to stop altogether. Although I signed up in 2010 (it was run on the family computer starting in 99), I only very recently decided to get back into crunching and wasn't privy to the writing on the wall from two years ago. It's a shame, I made it to 25th in RAC in a short period of time. I was ready to do work. The other space projects are magnitudes less inspiring than SETI, and I'm really going to have to think about whether I care enough to buy the electricity. It's that, or just wait and hope for something similar or SETI-related to pop up and shutter the "SETI Lab" for now. Sad. |

So does this mean there will also be no more BOINC updates? You can download a BOINC Manager from multiple locations, not just Seti@Home. Remember Seti@Home and BOINC are two different projects. BOINC is not going to stop "processing" :) Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

The way I've seen it work here is that it will not request tasks for a "0" project until the moment it runs out of work from non-zero projects. Normally, it will then request only a few tasks, perhaps even just 1, for the device (GPU or CPU) requiring work. This is not universal, though, in that in some cases, on some machines, it will "flood" the machine with work rather than 1's and 2's. Personally, I have only seen this on Einstein project, and there may be other factors involved related to how much work your client requests.. Einstein's servers have been tweaked and act oddly, and are well-know for sending more work than expected for whatever reason. Since the rewrite of the client scheduler in 7.16.x things got a bit weird as well. 7.14 was pretty well-behaved, in my experience. |

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in SETI activities. I may not sign up for other projects because no one has inspired me as much as Carl. My focus is on the youth of the US. I want them to be as enthused as I about our Space Program. If you ever generate a youth program (pre-k through undergrad) that provides activities, scholarships and high school through undergrad internships, please contact me. I am retired and I would love to use my time sharing my love of the cosmos. Thank you, Danke, merci beaucoup, molte grazie, muito obrigado/muita obrigada, and muchas gracias SETI deserves all of this and more. |

Sniff A 20 year relationship is now a days a rarity. I will fondly remember the friendships this project made possible. A few of you I was able to meet in person. Packing half my suitcase with anni-shirts will be missed on my travels. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

Good luck those of you @SETI! I hope that in your research there are some more WOW moments! I personally have enjoyed all the time that was permitted to me to be able to participate in such a great undertaking. As others have said such a wild ride! I too look forward to the day when SETI comes out of hibernation with something new and until that day comes, there are other project ventures that need computing power so of course I will be contributing. I was kind of hoping to hit a few more milestones myself before the inevitable conclusion but alas, life! Eh Good tidings to all of you and thanks! Sincerely, Antony |

Knowing Life Exists using a 'Listening ' 'Program' is so important, We would have a 'Listening' Post on Far Side of Moon. If We Don't have one, then 'Listening' is Not Important. Cost would be UNIMPORTANT since So Many Highly Educated have said......well, you know what they have said. Yet NO ACTION relative to 'Importance'. Oh Well, Time to spend another Couple Trillion on War and taking care of migrants or fighting 'them' off. Yep WOW May we All have a METAMORPHOSIS. REASON. GOoD JUDGEMENT and LOVE and ORDER!!!!! |
