Having been with Seti@Home since March of 2000 I would just like to say it has been quite the experience. Over the years I have built computers just for running Seti, which has taught me much about computing. I would like to thank everyone involved in the development of Boinc / Seti@Home. Hopefully one day "The Signal" will be found. Best of luck! James Huml (a.k.a Rumsfeld) |

It's been a great project. Thanks staff. Thanks volunteers. I'm taking my cycles to distributed.net as soon as work is finished here. |

Well, it really bothered me that we had no back end to analyze all the data we have done. Gone with the wind (Chris) forwarded my thoughts enough that I didn't feel a big need to post my feelings. Damn it. Even though this is needed it hurts a lot, I have been with this project for over 20 years and this just slaps me in the face. There is a few weeks until the end of the month so I will start to figure out what project to put my computer to use. Maybe like a phoenix it will rise from the ashes and once more find glory. Until then thank you all for being part of something that is MUCH bigger than the sum of all of us. Be proud of being a a pioneer and cling to the hope that the best is yet to be. In Shock and Awed Cactus Bob Sometimes I wonder, what happened to all the people I gave directions to? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SETI@home classic workunits 4,321 SETI@home classic CPU time 22,169 hours |

This was not good news :( How about making a Former Seti Crunchers (etc) FAH team and show others how to crunch? :) Very curious where those big guns are going to crunch. Great memories, first noticed weird screen saver on my friends computer in 2006. It took two years when i first started cruncing Seti on my first account. Good times. |

putting this out. can we put a list of all the seti@home that have past away. in the faq or something to honor them and remember them for their service on here.???? I'd been planning on doing this for a while, and since this is an optimal time, I've pinned a list in the Cafe. The forums will continue to operate long after work distribution has ended. ![]() |

Will you be producing special end of run diplomas? Maybe they could include more stats like "ranked 620 out of 64,000 teams putting them in the top 1%" And other stuff. |

Having at least one PC working on SETI since 14th July 1999, I'm so sad for this. Hope something changes about. Cheers from Italy. |

I started Seti in Oct 2001 with a clunky desktop at work, which evolved to hijacking the idle time of 24-clunky WinXPs (mpeg video storage PCs), and just about everything else I could connect to the internet, which further evolved to where I am now in retirement (a small mixture of power-hungry WinXPs, and several 64-bit thingies, at home). I felt like I was a part of something surreal, which I actually was, and for that I thank Seti. Change is hard for some, but for me it's not all that scary in retirement, so I'll be here when you need further use of my thingies. I know for a fact the local power company will continue to enjoy high profit margins because of it!! LOL!!! In the meantime, it's connect-to-a-new-project time to fill the void. 10-4, over and out. |

I've been crunching since September 1999 and will continue until the data runs out at which point I'll redirect my computers to another worthy project. I'm fine with the decision to hibernate the project and remember with fondness the quirky certificates of achievements we would get in the early days after reaching various levels. I will be interested in whatever subsequent studies suggest about the project's results. That there has been nothing to shout about so far is disappointing but in the grand scheme of things I guess not surprising. Twenty years is but a blip of universe time. Bert |

I am going to seriously miss watching that graph floating around my screen, wondering which bump meant someone might be saying 'hi'. SETI@Home was my first distributed computing project (started 16 May 1999). Thank you for two decades of optimism and hope. |

I've had at least one PC running SETI@home since 2006, it's always been the first utility I put on a PC when I get it. And on my old PC's I just put them on a wire rack and let them keep on running it. Time to throw out some old hardware I guess. Helping where I can. Hindering everywhere else. |

Sad that it's ending. I wish Nebula could be a distributed project so we could all continue to contribute. Nothing since has captured my imagination in the same way that SETI@home did. Joined in June 1999 after seeing the iconic screensaver on someones screen. At home in the early days I had dial-up and used SETI buffer to avoid being on line all the time and running up big telephone bills. Also used apptoservice back then to run SETI constantly in the background on my work PC ;-) As has been mentioned by a few, my PC room at home has been the warmest in the house in the winter because of SETI@home. |

Of course we could have all been barking up the wrong tree the whole time...that is the story of *science*, and it does not invalidate the effort :) |

I`m a member since May 24th, 1999, and I am sad that this REALLY great and peaceful project will be finished soon. Very many people from all parts of our planet worked together to find another "WOW!"-signal. We were a REALLY great team!! :-) Good luck to all of you... hope there will be a similar project soon. See ya... and "Auf Wiedersehen!" Peter |

That is not good news. I have been processing Work units for over 20 years. All this time, I though the results I were sending back were being analyzed. Are you saying you've just been collecting for 20 years, decided you have more than enough data and just now are going to start analysis? I hope that is not the case. So can you not distribute the analysis? I am more than sad and disappointed, I am pissed at this news. |

So can you not distribute the analysis? It can't be distributed practically as it needs the entire data set simultaneously to work on. What could have instead happened was having the analysis run while we're still sending and receiving work as usual, but neither the money was there, nor, I am becoming increasingly convinced, the interest to find it and keep the project going as it has. Only time will tell, by how long it takes for the hibernation to end. ![]() |
