For me, S@H is / was a way to feel that I belong to something biger, worthfull, to the unexplainable whole, a bond to the universe.

A huge urge to discover the mystery of the mystery of ... ? Of cource it's relevant only for a human bean, the cosmos don't care ;)

And because it's all about FFT, then I was 12 and saw for the first time the dancing bargraphs on Klark Teknik DN60 audio analyser, I was mesmerized... till now.

It was an excuse for looking for oportunities to change hardware etc.

Hopefully you guys, would build a far better new aps and dehibernate S@H soon.

Perhaps the day after the deadline we can all have a good laugh when our SETI@Home screensavers are replaced with a full text "APRIL FOOL'S!" . Oh well, maybe it's time to learn how to crunch crypto currency. . . I'd be rich if I'd done that for the past twenty years instead of SETI, eh ?

@ Keith Myers
Yes, my timing was very bad as usual. Just purchased upgraded gpus for Seti.
You and me both! I have a new Ryzen 9 3900 and a SuperMicro server with 24 drives,
4x16 TB HDDs, and more waiting for my next trip to the U.S. in May. Well, I will have to
see what I can use them for now.

This is truly a sad news. However, I was wondering, if there is anythingn we can do on the data analysis stage to help S@H scientists?

Regards,

Alan

物の哀れ

ok I get it, don't wanna have lots of unanalyzed data lying about till someone shows up and says:

"all your data are belong to us . . . you have no chance . . . make time . . . ha ha ha . . ."

it's just hibernation not the end . . . and since great many work has been done from classic to BOINC

there doesn't need to be much hibernation anyway . . .

I think I'll live . . .

still some mono no aware here . . .

10+ years running the project and sad about the news, but hey! Need to be done for moving to the next phase.

I was kinda waiting something like this since the "database now too big to handle" issue from so time ago.

Looking forward to see what is next to Seti@home, and the analysis of data plus papers, and of course will keep my machines running for things like milkyway and enistein@home while searching for something extra, but of course... nothing will have that "searching for what is out there" condiment on it.

Anyways, will donwload has much units as I can until Elvis leaves the building!

Guys its a little early for April fools :(

This has been possibly my favorite project to run on my limited hardware, so its sad to see it stop - I hope the hibernation will not be for ever.

I can only thank you for the opportunity given and the work done.

Yes, my timing was very bad as usual. Just purchased upgraded gpus for Seti. The other projects would have been perfectly happy with my existing gpus.

No good deed will go unpunished.

In the fictional Star Trek universe, the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition, the 285th rule states that "No good deed ever goes unpunished.".

I am a bit gutted, but I would like to thank all who've taken part and made this possible. I've been on this project for 18 years, and have enjoyed knowing that I've helped with progress the science.
Good luck in the future, and I hope you'll return with more data to crunch

But that's the whole point: we don't know, and we won't know if we continue crunching data without it ever being analysed down the line. So, given budgetary constraints, it's better if we stop processing tapes and our results do get analysed so there's a chance to actually find something.

It's the end of an era for sure, but it's a whole lot better than accumulating results that never get looked at.
Gazing at the skies, hoping for contact... Unlikely, but it would be such a fantastic opportunity to learn.

Wow... 20 years already.. i joined 20th may 1999...

Anyway.. it is a bit sad this is happening, but i am also glad for the oportunity of having contributed to this project while it lasted and please, DO keep us posted on the post-work of SETI@Home and the writing of your paper, please :)

Also, always remember that you have a faithful community out here willing to help, so, if you have colleagues (meh, of course you have!!) with projects of their own that need help number crunching, call us, we will gladly lend a hand and computers to help.

And, if you ever restart Seti@home we will for certain help you out, just make sure to stand on the side so you don't get trampled when we run back to help, Heheheh.

I will look for another projects to participate in, maybe i'll llook into the medicine ones, been running Rossetta for for awhile... damn, so many interesting projects and somany things i am interested in.. decisions, decision, decisions.

Anyway, Kudos to you guys, keep up the good work and forward unto dawn!!.. wait, what? ahh whatever!!!

Cheers to you all!! Live long and Prosper!!

Group Question: To what project are you going to direct all your NVIDIA computing power after March 31?

For now, what little I leave up will go to Einstein. The big boxes will just shut down, at least until I get the bad taste out of my mouth here.

Well I must say this is a shock. I have had two of my main computers down for the last week and to come back and find this is sad. I have been trying to make it to the 20 year club and that will not happen now.
I remember when it took a very long time to get one WU finished.
We are going to have to rethink how to get some heat into the kitchen now that the computer room will be cooling down.
Keith: I have been upgrading my TV and so was holding off upgrading the computers. I got lucky there.
