I have supported you since I began shore duty almost 15 years ago, and have enjoyed being a part of this vast experiment to further our knowledge and understanding of the cosmos. I am greatly saddened that I will not be able to push my powerful PC to the breaking point with SETI any longer, but I am also involved with three other programs that are just as vital in helping our planet. I truly hope that we will receive new work units in the near future. "Live now; make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again." Well this is sad. Been crunching SETI work units since June 5, 1999 on numerous PCs - all home built. I've also been doing a few other BOINC projects from time to time but always go back to SETI because I just enjoy it and there was always a (very remote) chance MY system would be the one to find ET. And I love the way my GPUs scream through those work units, building points. Got. To. Build. Points! For what? Uh... just because! Oh well. I also do World Community Grid which doesn't run on GPUs so that one combined with SETI was perfect for using up all my spare processing power! Guess I'll have to find other projects for my GPUs now. Not sure if I can help on the Nebula project but I'll give the docs a read and see if I can support the time involved. These days I have much more spare processing power than brain power! |

Thank you for the many years of fixing cranky servers and fiddling with code on the weekends, just so I could process WUs and be a part of this wonderful science project. I hope the papers are well received. |

i kind of understand the shut down. tons of data that hs to be gotten thru. hardware been a hell of a issue for a long time now. |

Well, that sucks. My very first thought on reading the opening post. Such is life. Grant Darwin NT |

Ok. Something here isn't making a lot of sense from my understanding how this project works. If only a small percentage of the sky has been analyzed, how is it possible at this point to get diminishing returns? What does that even mean? And why does "analyzing the back end" of the results require the shutting down of incoming data? I didn't know one was dependent on the other. Can't analyzing the back end and incoming data occur simultaneously? I have my own speculation of what is happening but it's just my own theory which I will keep to myself. |

And why does "analyzing the back end" of the results require the shutting down of incoming data?Money. There isn't enough of it to analyse the data already gathered, and keep sending out more to add to what's already been done. If you could come up with, say $1.25 million- per year -for the next 10 years, then they could keep this part of Seti going for another 10 years, and analyse the data as well. Grant Darwin NT |

Well, bugger. I've been doing this since 26 May 1999, seems I'm not going to make the 21 years and be an adult. Like most of the older members I started on a a machine with tiny processing power that used to get a unit done in days rather than minutes like it does now. I'll be sad, well am sad, to see it go, but I'm not deleting the project, it'll just sit there waiting to wake up again if needed....a bit like Arthur. So, recommendations anyone for something to spark my astronomical/physics heart? I was thinking Einstein or Atlas. |

Wow, so sad to hear :( I've been crunching for 7 years, and have enjoyed building machines and telling friends about the project. I was even considering UCB for my MS one of these days because I wanted to focus on SETI and the distributed computing systems that UCB manages. Hoping that SETI finds new reasons to collect and crunch data soon. |

Glad I returned to SETI crunching when I did, plenty of good memories from the early days of SETI & the excitement of being part of something much bigger. There's plenty of other worthy BOINC related projects out there (surprised me how many there is now), to keep your houses warm with. Thank you for keeping the project going this long, it's been much appreciated. SETI@home member since 1 Aug 1999 |

It was just two weeks ago when the memory poped up in my mind. There was a SETI project I participated when I bought my first pc 21 years ago. That memory led me to google and figure out that the project was still alive. I signed up again and now this... Am I late or? |

A pity, because one of my usual habits every morning during 13 years is starting up the SETI program I wish you all the best and congrats for reaching the end of the universe (Looks like the Truman's show) |

What I would like to ask is! Will we still be able to support the product with donations and if required equipment? |

Thank you for all your hard work over the years. Glad to help out for 19+ years. I also am confused as to why a certain portion of the money wasn't used to analyze the data being crunched so far. Anyway, hibernation it is and I'll wait with everyone else until crunching is needed. I haven't ever been a one project person though so I always have 10 or more other projects that are crunching. The ones I have now are Universe, Collatz, Cosmology, Asteroids, Einstein, Gerasim, MilkyWay, Rosetta, WorldCommunityGrid, and yoyo. They all seem worthy of help. (^: Again, thanks for the education of BOINC and computer innards learning! Much appreciated. (^: .... PS If you set up BOINC on your cell phones to crunch, be sure to set it low usage because my Samsung Galaxy 7 cell phone overheated and now the battery is partly fried. Good luck! |
