This is obviously some kind of server side glitch.
You will be aware that the GPUUG has produced private clients which circumvent the server limits, and Juan is a primary exponent of this practice? His machine currently has a daily limit of 68191 GPU tasks per day: he'll be able to fetch more work now, because the day has rolled over to tomorrow.

i think he's remarking on the value of 60-some thousand tasks. how could that value be set to that limit when the servers can neither send him that many tasks in a day, nor has juan returned that many tasks in the last day. he hasnt has that many tasks in his cache since last week or 2 weeks ago. there's no way he returned that many tasks in the last day.

OK, accepting that, let's pick it apart.

There's no mystery about the quota per day. All it needs is a long, steady, history of reliable crunching without errors. One of my mid-range Windows machines has 'Max tasks per day 67680'. That value goes up by one with each {successful, valid} task returned - not sure which of those is the actual test used. If you return a single error, it goes back down to 33.

So the oddity is the server claiming he'd reached his quota yesterday. The actual report was 'finished a daily quota of 67344 tasks'. What's special about that number? it's too big to be a 16-bit overflow...

yes that's what I mean. there's no way Juan could have processed that many tasks in one day, so I don't know how he could have hit the limit.

There's no mystery about the quota per day. All it needs is a long, steady, history of reliable crunching without errors.

I thing my host qualify to that:
Number of tasks completed	1387046
Max tasks per day	69564
Number of tasks today	1270
Consecutive valid tasks	2104

But as you could see the number of task is in the range of 4-5K per day only.
So i agree with Ian, there is no way my host reach the limit specially now with less GPU`s working on it. The mystery continues. :)

Just got some resends of tasks that are due to expire April 30th. So it is now 12 days before due date.

edit: some of the early resends I got yesterday have a May7 deadline. I should be finish them today, but I hope it doesn't resend the resends before I do them.
My CPU is currently crunching stuff with May 8 deadlines and doing them in deadline order. If they start resending those early, they are just needlessly postponing their assimilation because my computer is returning them very soon.

They do so now, a full four weeks before deadline (May 17th): https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=3946689548
The affected host is a high-performance system crunching along its large (19136) cache and reporting weeks before deadline. So, I propagated early resends before, but four weeks early is contra-productive, as it's postponing things. (Please no "spoofer", "cheater" remarks... There are different opinions on this, which is ok.)

Greetings,

How is it that someone with over 43K tasks IN PROGRESS gets over 300 tasks TODAY while those of us with nothing get NOTHING!?

Have a great day! :)

For the same same reason as always- BOINC Manager backoffs. If you're returning work, they don't occur. If you're not returning work, they do.

Grant is right. Your host will only receive work if he ask for it, at the right time of course.
My host received >500 Resends during the last night feeding frenzies too. All already served & returned.
I believe is what the Project managers wants, clear the DB ASAP so they could finally close the distribution of the WUs.
Not believe they wish to wait until the end of July or more to do that.
Did you see they added an extra wingmen for all the WU'S? That points in that direction too.

If you not believe me, maybe you believe in Eric himself

We're resending a lot these days to try to get the outstanding ones validated and into the science database so we have a "final complete set".

I must have missed that thread Juan, in which one did Eric post that. Not questioning the veracity of the quote just curious about what thread it is in. Thanks

. . Currently the minimum backoff is at 30 mins and 18 secs. Any less and you won't get any work even if there is some to get. But I don't think that is what he is concerned about.

Eric doesn't post to Seti anymore it seems. The quote came from Facebook apparently. Zalster was the one who told me. He is part of the BOINC Facebook crew.

It's in a post in the FB Seti@home forum. It's in a reply to someone asking why resends were coming out lasts night. I can't link to the the direct post. You would have to go to the FB forum and then look for it. I saw it 4 hours ago since it was in reply to one of the other admins.

Not believe the entire post is necessary. What is the meaning of that.
They are trying to close the DB and get the final complete set.
That is what affect us and explain why those huge number of resends.
On a last Hurrah of the crunching season, we need to help them to achieve this goal by crunching the resends ASAP.

What's the exact name of the Facebook group or page please ?
There are about 5 or 6 large ones, I think I am in most of them.

I'm doing my best, but examples like WU 3953678175 don't help.

But it's not a MIA wingmate, this time. Host was created on 21 Mar 2020, last fetched work 18 Apr 2020, still has 18974 tasks in progress. Perhaps one of his team-mates could have a quiet word with him?

Considered done. I believe is a bunkered host.
