Message 2040975 - Posted: 28 Mar 2020, 0:32:15 UTC - in response to Message 2040964.

A small correction, the Linux normal stock crunching program is not so fast than the windows version as some could think.
What makes a huge difference is the Special Sauce coded by one volunteer for his own use and because he is a very good guy make it widely available to anyone to use.
There are some additional enhances who help the host run a little more WU/day like the mutex, OC & priority control. But again all are widely available.
BTW I'm not a Linux guy, all my others hosts runs windows, my dedicated crunching host is the only one i have who runs Linux and i install Linux on it just to run this Special Sauce.

. . 1st ... Yay Petri!!! Many thanks.

. . And like yourself I am NOT a Linux kind of guy. But I have 4 dedicated crunchers running Linux and one daily driver still running Windows. And boy what a difference it makes when the rig is on the sauce. :)

. . With no SETI work two of the Linux boxes will retire and the remaining two will do E@H. Then see where the future takes us ...

Stephen

The problem at the moment isn't work production, it's just getting work from the servers (although when we can get work from the servers then the limited work production will be the next impediment to getting any work).

Both of my systems finally managed to pick up a few WUs (all new work, no resends at all). Enough CPU work for an hour & GPU work for 30min on one; and just GPU work, probably 60-90min worth, on the other.
Edit- oh joy, looks like a few of the new WUs are noise bombs. So i can probably halve the estimates for how long till the systems run out of work again.

Reporting 42 Wu at a time, getting only 5 each 10 request. At this rate even my cache will be fully depleted in less than 10 days.

The end is near.

10 days???
Ran out of work ages ago, just picking up bits here & there every hour or so.

With no one else getting any work, if you do manage to score some, download speeds are presently excellent.

Either someone gave the servers a kick, or they reached a tipping point.
Now getting a bit of work on quite a few requests, instead almost none on barely any requests. It might take most of a day at this rate, but caches are refilling.

Edit- I shouldn't have mentioned it.
Back to no work on almost all requests.

Just got a single OpenCL_ati_mac AP. it's kicked in, nothing is updating. Time to do what a real Californian would do. Go get burritos.

I'm more partial to fish tacos... but whatever. My slow machine is still chugging along, but doesn't have a full queue. sigh. Don't want to switch to another project until after the last WU finishes.

Out of GPU work again on both systems, and will be out of CPU work on both in the next 45min.

You must be in San Diego. I haven't had one of those since I lived above mission valley. I do miss SD fiercely.

I'm sitting on 184 files on my best machine. Only enough GPU work for maybe 45 minutes. SSP is current 5-9 minutes, nothing available, and only 2 splitters splitting MB data. My pollo asada was excelente though.

Edit:
UnixChick, you running that on a Mac mini? I'm running two of them, a 2014 late and 2018 with two eGPUs. It's a killer little platform.

The trickle still keeps coming with an occasional GPU task, but none currently.

. . My two big hitters are both OOW and shut down (hours ago) and the two smaller units are running E@H with virtually no work coming from S@H on every request ... :(

I only have about 2-3 days of work left on the system that’s in 5th place by total credit. Sad.

Nothing new for hours, just few resends eventually. To where the new splitted data is going?

With 3 days to go the end will be cold and darkness.
