While users have low cache levels, but the project is working normally again, now seems to be a good moment to announce the next Installer.

Important changes:

For AMD/ATI GPU users: Installer v0.46 contains applications for use on RX 57xx series GPUs. If you have one of these cards. and you have previously used the Lunatics installer, you MUST upgrade to the new version. You MUST also upgrade your video drivers to at least the Adrenaline 20.1.1 Optional driver.

For NVidia GPU users: If you are running Windows 10, and your video drivers have been updated to v436.xx or above - either automatically by Microsoft, or manually for gaming - the normal OpenCL 'SoG' application may exhibit problems. Installer v0.46 contains the older 'opencl_nvidia_sah' application, which can be used as a temporary stopgap until working drivers are available. This installer also includes the SoG application, so you can go back to normal running as soon as you've installed working drivers: no need for a second download.

These changes are for MultiBeam data processed on GPUs only: CPU and intel_gpu applications are unchanged from v0.45 Beta6, as are the Astropulse applications.

As always, the Lunatics Installer is designed to:

* Stop your running BOINC installation
* Install the new applications
* Restart BOINC

Sometimes, the restart process fails: simply wait a few seconds after the installation has completed, and start BOINC manually.

The Lunatics Installer makes no changes to the tasks currently in your cache: they will look exactly the same (application name and version number) as they did before, but they will be processed by the new application(s) you have chosen. As time passes, new work downloaded from the project will display the new name and version number for reference.

This installer is designed to handle all officially issued application versions: both the new v8.24 and the older v8.22 versions for ATI cards, v8.22 for NVidia, and all application versions installed by the v0.45Beta6 installer. If you have used your own plan_class names and/or version numbers for experimental applications, the Installer may not be able to preserve cached work. If in doubt, set 'No New Tasks' and run the Installer when your cache is empty.

Lunatics v0.46 installer

The Google folder contains two files: the main installer, and a small configuration file. If you download the configuration file as well, the Installer will run in 'test mode' - delivering the new applications to a test folder for inspection, without changing your active BOINC folder. To fully install the applications for BOINC to use, simply delete the configuration file before running the Installer.

Operators of other download sites are invited to download the new installer and make it available through their sites as well. Fell free to post alternative download links in this thread, in case my Google link becomes congested.

The installer provides ReadMe files for each application as well: please look out for them before asking questions here, because the answers may already be on your machine. But if you still need to ask, feel free to post here.

I did just injstalled Lunatics 0.46 with NVIDIA 441.99 (Vulkan 1.2) under Win 10.
The installation was easy and is still working fine.
As usual I did made some changes in the "Aplinfo.xml" because I running 3 instances per 2080 GPU.
Please mark the new version like 0.46.xx

I tried these a long time ago and my crunch time with from a couple minutes to hours on a 2080ti. Is there a benefit to running this vs the stock app? I haven't contributed much since the driver issue and would like to come back.

It depends what driver you are running now. Your computer says "Microsoft Windows 10: driver 441.87" - that is not a good pairing for SETI at the moment.

But that is exactly why this installer has been released. Provided you choose the 'opencl_nvidia_sah' application (preselected), you should be able to resume work - not super-fast, but at a reasonable speed.

Be aware that the SETI project is somewhat gummed up at the moment, at least partly because of this problem. Work will be rare and hard to get.

Ok I did the install. I figured out how to have Collatz ignore my 2080ti and Seti to ignore my 1060. Now we wait and give the 2080ti a break at the same time from running 24/7. This way I can still game while crunching on other projects.

I will get it moved over to Farragut. (Dad's i7-7700 Win 10 Pro x64

Thank you for setting this up, Richard, it was easy to install. I am confused, though, and it may be that I am assuming something. I thought the Lunatics installer was supposed to install the application for Nvidia GPUs to run the CUDA version of the MB application? My 1660 Ti appears to be running OpenCL, and my completion times don't appear any better (maybe worse, but I haven't had a chance to tweak the command line yet). I know the real good stuff is available for Linux, but I thought there was at least something better than stock available for Windows 10. I would dig through all the old posts on the board right now, but unfortunately I don't have that time.

Additionally, as some constructive criticism, I would recommend updating the hardware listed in which application to choose. For example, for "ATI" GPUs, the MB8_win_x86_SSE2_OpenCL_ATi_HD5_r3584 application was automatically selected for my Vega 8 APU. First, I assume this was automatically selected because the program detected my GPU? Second, it says this application is for HD5xxx and above. I apologize, but I haven't been paying close attention to hardware until a little over a year ago, so I have no frame of reference what an HD5xxx series GPU is. Perhaps the installer needs to list more modern cards, such as the RX400, RX500, and RX5000 series GPUs? Same story for Nvidia as well.

The application can only detect the CPU type.
For the GPU it is up to the person running the installer to select the best application to use. For Nvidia GPUs, the SoG application is the best one. However, make sure you only run 1 WU at a time, and do make use of command line values to get the most out of it.

Thank you, Grant, I'll keep with the SOG application. I'm running across another problem, though, this time with my Ryzen 3 2200G APU (GPU portion). When tasks used to take 45-60 minutes, I find they are crunching still after a few hours. I'm not sure if the Lunatics application is not suited for the APU, or if I did something wrong. I have been switching between the HD5_r3584 and the APU_r3584 applications, and I think I'm getting the same results with both. I have been a bit busy, so I haven't been able to babysit this as much as I would like to.

Any advice? I have some command line tweaks that I have run on the stock application before, but that doesn't seem to be affecting things as far as I can tell.

Slow tasks on a APU or iGPU are usually caused by not enough cpu support. IOW trying to do too much with limited cpu resources. Set cpu usage to 75% to free up a core.

Yes, I have heard of that many times here, but I have always had all four cores running and the APU tasks would complete in that amount of time. I suppose the one core supporting the 1660 Ti could be loaded a bit more, but that seems unlikely. I use to run the system with three CPU tasks and one GPU (APU) tasks. I would guess a CPU task would load the core the same, if not more, than a GPU.

If I drop a core, I don't think my performance is significantly greater on the GPU, so I think I am worse off in that situation than running the stock applications.

I have to admit I guessed a bit (quite a lot...) when mapping Eric's v8.24 binary hacks onto Raistmer's original filenames for this installer. It's possible that the APU designation missed the mark.

Task 8546373524 took about 75 minutes to complete, way more than I'm used to. I'm haven't been keeping a close eye, so I'm not sure which anonymous application crunched this task. Assuming this is a problem with the application and not my computer, I have a couple of questions/observations:

1. Does the driver version matter for the APU? I would assume not, but for what its worth, I am using the latest driver (Radeon 20.2.1).
2. My APU clock speed stays pretty low most of the time. HWinfo and Task Manager show it around idle (400 MHz) most of the time, with peak clock speed (1100 MHz) only on occasion. That isn't how it typically has run in the past, but I have seen this once before. I don't recall if the problem solved itself, or if I did something different.

Edit - #3 - (I knew I forgot one!): Richard, I know you mentioned that the new applications we run via the installer will still use the same tasks. I believe all of these ATI/AMD tasks are still from the "stock download". It probably doesn't matter but I thought I would mention it anyway.

With that system i would use 3 CPU cores for processing CPU work, and reserve 1 CPU core to support the Nvidia GPU. I wouldn't make use of the iGPU at all except to drive the monitor.
While much more capable than the Intel iGPUs, the fact is it still has the same limitations as the Intel iGPU- it has to share power, heat and memory bandwidth limits with the CPU.
Modern multi-core CPUs can put out more CPU work, than the increased output of an iGPU can offset the losses in CPU output.

ie- using a CPU core to support an external GPU will produce much more work than just running the CPU, as you only loose the output from one CPU core- none of the other CPU cores outputs are impacted.
With an iGPU, it's increased output is not enough to offset the huge hit the CPU output will take through the loss of the core required to support the iGPU, as well as the reduced output from the remaining CPU cores due to thermal/power/memory bandwidth limitations.

A task is a task is a task . . . . . they are all the same for MB. All that changes is the application used to crunch them.

Sounds like it is either thermally throttling dropping down in frequency to cool itself off or as Grant suggests, it is not getting enough cpu support to keep the card constantly fed with data and allow the card to boost to its normal operating clocks.
