Message 2028359 - Posted: 18 Jan 2020, 18:51:01 UTC

For a couple of reasons, the result table has grown to the point where it no longer fits in main memory. That has been slowing the validators and assimilators, which is causing the result table to grow further.

We'd like to get it down to a manageable size before our Tuesday outage. To that end we are throttling work generation to a rate at which the table size is shrinking. We hope that this rate will increase as the table gets smaller.

So for the next few days work will be hard to come by (but not zero).

how much RAM does the system have? can it take more? I don't think the folks here would have much issue chipping in for an upgrade.

+1. RAM price is also very low now and it's predicted to rise in H2. If more ram could help, this is likely the best time to make the purchase in next one or two years.

Perhaps I will remember to use the right email address to get my donor star this time. :-P

Thanks for the offers of RAM. Unfortunately the database machines are maxed out for RAM at this point.

We'll be doing a full duration outage to reorganize both database machines tomorrow. The good news is that we've gotten to our target of a 20% reduction in the size of the result table. That means we'll be generating work at the normal rate today.

I'm curious to know what database program you use and what kind of database analysis tools you are using?

I'm thinking it's time to let Mr Kevvy know how much is needed for upgraded servers.

I've been with no work for just over 24 hrs now on 5 computers and none of them have been able to "report" any results. I've about 300 plus units "ready to report" and it's been that way since yesterday.

Expect several hours more like this due to the servers being battered by 100,000+ dry hosts after two days offline.

@Lynn,
Did you read the notices? The project was down for maintenance to, in the long run, improve performance. I know that credit is important to some, I also take pride in trying to be at the top of my group, but what is more important is the work itself. Finding proof of intelligent life could change the world, hopefully for the better, and you have to look at the bigger picture.
Best Regards.

Well I see we still have our 71 V7 workunits waiting to go away. Kind of wondered if the long outage and reorg would have cleaned them up.

We don't know yet, that value is As of 51h ago. And so are many other values on the SSP.

I did read some a tad bit. I apologize to Seti staff for my outburst.
I was just angry, and it went away. :-)

Cheers

Is this issue still present? I noticed most of the servers show as running but I still have zero tasks I keep getting Communication Deferred.
