I have a windows 10 PC running an Intel Core i7 5820K water-cooled and overclocked to 4.2ghz with 16GB of RipJaws memory. The box has an Nvidia GTX 970 video card. This box has been running stable since i built it last year. It runs all software with no artifacts or crashes of any kind.

It runs BOINC manager, and completes work units. What it wont do is run the Screen Saver for Boinc. Ive got the SS to come on after 1 min. The screen saver wont even "Preview" in the SS settings dialog box.

Ive removed all projects from boinc for now except SETI@Home to try and get the SS working.

Does anyone have any ideas on why this isnt working?

I'm pretty sure only the CPU based work units still have a screen saver. I believe the more recent GPU applications removed it.

ive been having the same problem as OP for months, ive been told its everything from boinc itelf to windows updating but still no luck. you are not alone OP

Hi i run Boinc on Windows 10 as well. Just started yesterday. but it seems to work like it should.

i also have no problem with the screen saver, it starts after a few minutes if you dont interact with you computer.
if it wont work, try to install Boinc as a Admin and use it as a Admin. Maybe this solves the problem.

or it's just the Intel Setup / Chip / Prosessor.. i Only run AMD (Phenom 2 x4 955) myself. i hate Everything from Intel.. Always problems with that shit..

i just saw you use overclocking on your computer.
turn it offf or set it to auto mode in bios.

overclocking is the main reason, that programs like this, with calculations dont work properly.

it's because it cant count right / correctly true overclocking.
ihad that to with a benchmark program on my AMD Computer.
with overclocking on auto in bios. the benchmark did run and work well..

This might be a viable point if the overclock had not been running stable for nearly 18 months. No errors what so ever. Not a single crash, in any program i run. I run some pretty intensive graphic editing software, games, office apps etc. My overclock is stable with temps around 43c under 90% load. (the max working temperature for my CPU is 55c). Anyway, None of them have ever had a problem. For that matter every other screen saver i set it to runs fine. Whereas BOINC wont even let the preview run.

TBH it worked when i first set it up about 2 months ago. It stopped working after editing the config on the boinc website. Has not run since then. Thing is i dont see a setting in the web config that would effect the screen saver running or not.

Maybe uninstalling and re-installing it is worth a go.

To answer others...Im running it as the admin on the system as well.
