Hi, I downloaded the program for first time a few days but have not been able to start using it since. I am getting the error message that processing is suspended. Please could someone advise?

Thanks for help.

The message is not an "error", but a status message
By default BOINC is set to suspend processing of project applications when "other use" exceeds a low value, (25%), which on many systems is too low.
If you go to your account "computing preferences" page (https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=global) you will see, fairly near the top something like this:
Suspend when computer is on battery
Suspend when computer is in use
Suspend GPU computing when computer is in use
'In use' means mouse/keyboard input in last 3 minutes
Suspend when no mouse/keyboard input in last 3 minutes
Suspend when non-BOINC CPU usage is above 75 %
Compute only between ---

Some of these will be ticked, some have numbers against them. If you scroll down the page you will come to a button labeled "edit preference", press thin and you can now change these values. I would increase the suspend when non-BOINC CPU usage exceeds (25% - the default) to say 50% as a starter, save the changes
Now, in the BOINC manager on your computer change to the "advanced" view (a rather boring looking set of tabs with no graphics), select the "projects" tab, an click the update" button alongside SETI@Home. Normally this will update your preferences within a few seconds, but given the server troubles we are having just now it might take an hour or so before you can actually get the new settings to transfer onto your computer (I'd go off and have a cuppa before trying). It might take a couple of tries to get the right values for your computer and whatever else you are doing.

Simple view has the update command as well, no need to tell people to use advanced view for this.
