Hi, I am contacting you from Iran. I am an electrical engineer and I am really really really interested in joining SETI Home project as a volunteer. As you may know, Iran is a completely restricted country and I want to ask you if I install this software would the government know that? Because if they recognize my system through any unusual signals, they won't consider this job as an interest or scientific thing, they would arrest me as a spy. Maybe it is funny for you, but unfortunately, it is a fact here. Thanks for your help. |

I think the only way you could be sure would be to actually ask the appropriate Government department if they consider BOINC an acceptable programme, and Seti an acceptable project. Running a project such as Seti will result in increased network activity, and the Seti servers are located in the US. So with your government's monitoring of internal & external internet traffic, contacting them would be your safest option. Grant Darwin NT |
