Agreed, but assuming Trump is acquitted, two possible silver linings exist; 1) Democrats & concerned Republicans VOTE in November and he's voted out. Problem solved. 2) He wins re-election, but the Democrats storm the Senate and hold the House; Trump's power will be significantly diminished and this will almost certainly leave Trump no option but to finally work with Democrats. Infrastructure, climate, taxes, and immigration legislation & reform could result. By 2024 the Democrats will finally take back the WH , while also owning the Congress. Mitch will definitely begone by 2026 no matter what. Thus: Democrats need to keep cool and watch the Republicans destroy themselves. The process has already begun.

Update on AP, Pentagon says 34 troops suffered brain injury in Iran strike

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon disclosed on Friday that 34 U.S. service members suffered traumatic brain injury in Iran’s missile strike this month on an Iraqi air base, and although half have returned to work, the casualty total belies President Donald Trump’s initial claim that no Americans were harmed. He later characterized the injuries as “not very serious.”

Eight of the injured arrived in the United States on Friday from Germany, where they and nine others had been flown days after the Jan. 8 missile strike on Iraq’s Ain al-Asad air base. The nine still in Germany are receiving treatment and evaluation at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, the largest U.S. military hospital outside the continental United States.

Jonathan Hoffman, the chief Pentagon spokesman, said the eight in the U.S. will be treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Bethesda, Maryland, or at their home bases. The exact nature of their injuries and their service and unit affiliations were not disclosed.

There’s a fashion these days for identifying left and right purely with notions of stances on laissez-faire economics. This has emerged out of the ideological battles of the 1980s in which the right came to embrace economic liberalism and is a relatively recent phenomenon.

In reality the history of what has been considered left vs. right wing political thought has been principally to do with stances on social hierarchies. The left, at least notionally, advocates for the end or reduction of social inequalities and hierarchies. Fascism hence came to be seen as far right because fascism at its core is an ideology which advocates hierarchy above all else. Every element of fascist ideology is about hierarchies, whether it be of nations, of leader above their subjects, or of ethnicities. Fascism is often misunderstood as having socialistic economics, this is untrue (for instance, on the Nazis read Adam Tooze’s excellent Wages of Destruction). Mussolini embraced economic liberalism at first and then moved to economic interventionism later. Mussolini himself saw fascism as embracing a combining of state and corporate power. In reality the actual tool didn’t matter so much - there is not a strict fascist economics in the way of communism or capitalism, rather instead fascists used the state or the market in whichever way they saw would best mould the hierarchical, anti-egalitarian world of their dreams. That is why they are described as far-right. To be a fascist is not merely to be against notions of making the world more equal, but to be against the very notion of equality itself. To describe that as socialistic in practice is to misunderstand socialism, which is similarly defined by its goals as one of economic equality above all else.
