I see Trump threatens to adjourn Congress so he can fill vacancies without Senate approval. Empty positions is not the problem. Under the Constitution, the president has the power to adjourn Congress “to such time as he shall think proper” when there is a disagreement between the House and Senate on when to adjourn. Trump's threatened use of a never used provision in the US Constitution is very, very disturbing. Isn't it sad that people believe that Federal laws written 200+ years ago applies to them. When it was up to each State who could vote, and that usually meant white property owners only, and that probably would not be the people who comment here, including me, if I was a US citizen. And I might add still don't apply to everybody in the US. |

We, in the USA, do not believe that the fundamental Rights of Individuals and minority beliefs are subjected to the will of any majority.That's pathetic. Nothing is written in stone. The world are changing and constitutions as well. All thing come to an end. Including the USA and the belief in Individual Freedoms. Freedom's which the Left and Right hate. An evil hate which lead to the killings millions of innocents in the last century and the worse crimes against humanity in history. Perhaps we should raise a glass and toast the inevitable hate filled success of the Left and Right. Or perhaps, we should all shudder at those who hate for Individual rights will, as it always has, succeed. This discussion brings up several ideas' There are more than one way to have a constitutionally protected democracy I don't think America's protections have perfect record. A case in point the gerrymandering used to deprive people of their voice, the effective disenfranchisement of people of color, a legal system which favors the white in it's execution. I don't know if Sweden has issues like that but the image I receive does not contain that. Possibly in the past the Saami were treated poorly but my impression is that is not the way it is today. |

The world are changing and constitutions as well. Get over yourself, and don't come here with your "The U.S is best". Your so called constitution is crap, just ask your minorities, and they tell you. Don't open your mouth like that again, before you have made sure that your citizens have access to affordable healthcare at least. (or maybe that's not part of the god given rights eh?) Universal healthcare, is the norm over here in Europe, as well as in most other developed countries, but in the U.S it's a Universal right, to die in the gutter when you get sick, unless you're a wealthy white capitalist of course. So much for "include everyone", and "“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” (No, you do not hold "these truths to be self-evident", when you can't even take care of the medical needs of your population.) The U.S is a failed state, and everybody except the Right Wing U.S citizens understands that. (You should remove "Liberal" from your screen name, you're no more liberal than Tr*** is) Don't come here and try to teach us anything, because you do not have anything to boast about. Your 200 year old failure is nothing to be proud of. Your country is a kid compared to the old world, and most of you seem to be political mo***s. No wonder the world more and more dislikes the U.S, because you always try to push your insane and failed constitution down the throat on other, more democratic countries. Countries that looks after its citizens 100 times better than the failed U.S state. (The U.S constitution is worthless, something that is shown every day through the mouth of the insane so called president you have now.) Now, go learn something about what real democracies are all about. The rest of the world does not like the U.S "Roman Empire" kind of failure. The Roman Empire came crashing down, for the same reason the U.S also will come crashing down. I for one, will raise a glass to world freedom, when that day comes. |

The belief that People's Rights are subjected to the will of a Ruling Class and a majority hating the beliefs of a minority. Unfortunately, the beliefs of the "Old World" apparently haven't changed. And what is the Constitutional Amendment/Change process in Sweden?.To Amendment/Change Constitutional laws is not easy of course To amend or to revise a fundamental law, the Riksdag needs to approve the changes twice in two successive terms with qualified majorities, with a general election having been held in between. Therefore, just a majority vote. We, in the USA, do not believe that the fundamental Rights of Individuals and minority beliefs are subjected to the will of any majority. And what is the Constitutional Amendment/Change process in Sweden?.To Amend/Change Constitutional laws is not easy of course https://www.riksdagen.se/en/how-the-riksdag-works/democracy/the-constitution// The fundamental laws are more difficult to amend than other laws. There should be time for reflection and ensuring that the consequences have been thoroughly considered before changes are made. This is designed to protect our democracy. |

Are your Rights given to you by your Government or Constitution. Or are your Rights given to you and all at birth and not by a Government or Constitution?Eh. The Rights are given by being a citizen of our country no matter of Governments and Constitutions of course. To amend the Rights as noted in the USA's Constitution and other matters. And understanding that a majority vote may be the first step in destroying the Individual Rights of all by a simple majority. A 2/3 vote of both Houses of Congress is necessary to start the process. Then... A 3/4 vote of our States is necessary. And what is the Constitutional Amendment/Change process in Sweden? BTW: There is a Constitutional Convention of States process. But this process has never been used.
