A continuation of this thread... The is the fourth and current Donald Trump (45th President of the United States of America) thread. Everything about Donald Trump is on-topic: ie himself, his Presidency, his party, his cabinet, his family, his business interests, and the state of the U.S. Federal Government during his term. As with any other thread, please note that any offtopic material may be removed at moderator discretion |

Now this won't make v2.0 very happy. Six more countries join Trump-busting Iran barter group. It's good to know that some us will stick by a done deal. |

It is frequently mentioned that Trump has destroyed international trust between the US and other countries, and how long it will take to repair the damage after he is gone. But he is also destroying friendships between politicians of the left and right within Congress. Take a look at these to see what McConnell and Graham have said in the past about Biden. https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/mcconnell-once-called-biden-a-real-friend-and-trusted-partner-now-hes-quiet-as-trump-gop-attack-him/2019/11/29/d516e3a2-12d0-11ea-b0fc-62cc38411ebb_story.html Three years ago, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell paid tribute to a former colleague in the most personal of ways. Leading off tributes from the Senate floor, the Kentucky Republican hailed the honoree’s rise from “unknowing despair†to forge “unlikely friendships†and whose word was so good you could “trust him implicitly.†https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/lindsey-graham-joe-biden_n_7714708?ri18n=true When Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) celebrated his retirement from the Air National Guard last week after 33 years of military service, he was greeted at the ceremony by an unexpected guest: Vice President Joe Biden. YouTube - Lindsey Graham Chokes Up Talking About Joe Biden Trump sure has a lot to answer for. |

Just for those who can't get behind the WaPo paywall, McConnell busted for sudden silence on ‘real friend’ Joe Biden once Trump began his ugly attacks.. ;-) But yes, v2.0 has a great deal to answer for. [edit] Meanwhile Rudy looks to be digging himself a bigger hole. Legal storm clouds gather over Rudy Giuliani, America's tarnished mayor. |

But he is also destroying friendships between politicians of the left and right within Congress. That is a tea party goal. To be sure that there is no possibility of compromise. That ensures that no legislation will be passed, thus limiting government by being do nothing. |

A continuation of this thread... Hi all. Now that we have a more sane and clear title for discussing issues or life relating to "Donald Trump" and I suspect his impact on the US and world at large I hope to be able to read this thread without all the bickering, one-up-manship and podium style arguing. I for one would love to learn more from other peoples beliefs and thoughts than read tit for tat, personal gripe type stuff. Lets begin afresh and lets not bait each other. I have my own way and thoughts on moding but to will be looking for things that break a certain level of decorum. Also please reduce the level of referring to each other by unkind nicknames or even by name if possible. Step over the arguments you don't like and if someone is trolling or making the thread hard to enjoy learning from or joining in just isolate the person by ignoring their posts all together. The argument that "this is 'politics' and if you don't like it you don't have to be here..." doesn't wash. This is a SETI forum that is seen by the public and all threads (even in 'politics') should be accessible to all. (Should be non-aggressive and open.) When I was asked to be a mod, just after our well respected and much loved mod Gordon MacKenzie Lowe died, I said yes because after 20 years of being just a cruncher and member of this forum I thought I owed something back. The truth is we all owe something more than just crunching. I think we all owe at least making this forum, even 'politics', a place new crunchers will find maybe challenging or informative but always enjoyable. As I said. I too would also like to learn more about Trump. Simply because of the US's impact in the world at large. (People's opinion's are a great way to learn - especially from those who experience issues firsthand or by direct impact.) Sorry for long post. Just my personal thoughts. (If you want to reply directly to me you can always PM me. If you want to use the 'Red X' at any time please don't if you actually caused an arguement or issue yourself.) cRunchy |

Might help if the Republicans stop blocking election security bills. Such as requiring proof of American Citizenship and a photo ID at the polls? ........didn't think so. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

What did you have to show (documents) in order to register and vote in your State? Government photo-ID, or a mailed voter reg. card (derivative from tax records and previous voting) + proof of address, or, ie for people in assisted care facilities who have neither, a guarantor must present government photo ID and their identity is logged. |

What did you have to show (documents) in order to register and vote in your State? State? I thought they called them provinces in Canada. And I showed permissible ID in my state. Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

Another win for Trump's trade policies. America's factories just suffered their worst month in a decade https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/01/economy/ism-manufacturing/index.html US manufacturing sector contracts fourth month in a row https://www.kxly.com/news/money/us-manufacturing-sector-contracts-fourth-month-in-a-row/1147441539 The workers are major Trump supporters, when will they connect the dots? |

Just a comment on this very confusingly written statement. Some years ago, when I was working in CA, several of us were traveling near the US/Mexico boarder and ordered to show our ID papers. It was very easy fo me to show mine, a UK passport, with valid green card and multi-entry visa, correctly stamped on entry at LA International. But this was not so for one of my colleagues, no driving license (never had the urge to drive), wallet in his hotel room with his company ID in it, only a few dollars cash in his pocket, olive skin, black hair; strong Spanish accent, worse still his family name "Gomez", place of birth "Uxbridge, MA". This caused us all a lot of trouble, in the company of a suspected illegal immigrant etc. (His family had emigrated from Spain in the mid-1800's, so not exactly a "wet back"). After some hours we managed to get a message to his hotel and the cops police in the town we were staying - the police went to there and turned his room inside out only to find his id on the top of his bed, just where he'd left it in the morning before we set off to site. This made me think, how, in some situations can one prove one is a citizen of one's home country? Since that day I've always made sure my passport is close at hand, so I at least have the "starter for ten" available. My "bonus question for ten" is I always carry my driving license as it shows place of residence. |
