Dell I5 laptop with Win 10 Boinc downloaded and will not connect to local host and when it does all project are not available at this time, try later. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Tamarin Tracker ID: 2018017 ·  |

Dell I5 laptop with Win 10 It is easier to give advice when your computer is NOT hidden. Do you have two windows userids? If Boinc is installed and starts up under one userid then you will get those kind of symptoms when you try to start it up intentionally or not under the 2nd userid. Good morning Tom, Thank you for your response and I wish it was that simple however, I have only one ID. I have two Dell I core 7 machines, one Dell core 2 duo machine all running Windows 10 Pro and one Dell core 2 quad running Windows 7 pro. These four all run Boinc with no problems; it is this new new Dell laptop, I core 5 running Windows 10 Pro, that I can not seem to get Boinc on and running. It usually can not connect to the local host or when it does, it disconnects and trys again and disconnects again. I have deleted Boinc and reinstalled it several times to no avail with the same results. Each time I deleted Boinc, I went to the registry to check if any remnants were left behind to insure a clean install of Boinc. Please let me know if you have a further suggestion I can try. One thing that might help everyone trying to help is you un-hiding your computers - this will allow folks to see if that errant computer has actually registered itself with SETI, or if it is "lurking in the dark" somewhere. One thing that has tripped up a few folks over the years is trying to run BOINC as a service which can be a "very bad idea" if there are issues with it. Another (and this is less common on Windows) is that the data directory is protected against the BOINC "virtual" user being able to access it - you can check this by looking at the permissions for C:\ProgramData\BOINC which is a hidden folder by default - I make sure it is visible so it is easy to see if things are actually working. I have the exact same problem, with the (mostly) exact same laptop. New Dell with an i5. Same problem that's being described, there are no projects listed and when I manually add the URL, it just doesn't work. I've reinstalled several times to no avail. The problem PC is not listed on my account because I cannot connect BOINC to my SETI@Home account until I connect to S@H. Frustrating. It's an odd problem, no clue if it has to do with hardware or software. Could be some of this Dell bloatware, but I'm not so sure and I don't want to just slash and burn everything.
