I got a machine with a ryzen 2700 and turned off the boost. it runs with 90% cpu and 75 cpu time. it runs 24/7 since this march.
The wall meter shows between 75/80 watts I pay 22 cents Kwh. I do have solar panels so i dont pay extra for it but for cost savings i dont crunch in December and January.

but if i did not have the solar panels.The cost are around 3 euro's a week and 13 euro a month.

When the days get longer i will have my other machine with 3700x and gpu will be running as long as my solar panels generate power.

For me its they hope to find ET so its worth it

I was then rudely reminded that Mining MB's don't have "open in the back" short slots. :)

So its running with 1 gpu while I organize getting a MB upgrade.

Easily solved with a Dremel cutting tool, burr or disc to cut down through the edge of the slot. Or even the X-Acto saw blade cuts through plastic very well.

Just before you may do that, check 1st to make sure that there are no other MB components that will interfere with what you want to plug into them. ;-)

There are things I am willing to hack around on. Electronic hardware is not one of them. I have killed several Laptops before I stopped being ambitious. Fortunately I owned them so it didn't harm anyone else just me and the poor laptops.

So I have a nice middle-priced new Asus MB (another helpful recommendation from Keith) on order from NewEgg via eBay where I can use that accruing balance from my hardware liquidation sale to pay for it.

I tried that once on an dead motherboard and it didn't go too well. The plastic cutting tool on the Dremel didn't fit well in the groove, needed to be thinner. The main problem was the plastic butt end was too thin and was needed to help keep the last pins in place. Really cheap socket. Probably should have experimented with a metal cutoff on the Dremel or an X-Acto blade.

One item I used that worked was the combination of a low profile card with a solid (ribbon-less) riser like x4-x16 or x8-x16 that add only 25mm to height of card. Also has the benefit of raising the board up 25mm to possibly clear components behind the socket

When I started Crunching in 2006, I had 5 PCs. (3 AMD K6-2 - 350MHz, 1 K6 - 300MHz, and 1 Athlon 1GHz.) These were CPU Crunchers, only - GPU Crunching hadn't quite started, yet. The old K6-2 - 350MHz Systems Crunched 1 Unit in 26-28 Hours!!!!! 😱😳😱

Between 2007 and 2014 I had retired out the K6 and K6-2 Systems. I kept the Athlon 1GHz System running. I picked up an Athlon XP System and tried Linux on it. FINALLY in 2014, I picked up an AMD A6-6400K System with EVGA NVIDIA GTX-760 2GB Card, AND a generic PC from Woohoo that eventually got turned into my first Hackintosh with some other used hardware from another source - to which I added one EVGA GTX-750TI SC 2GB Card from Zalster, and a second EVGA GTX-750TI SC 2GB Card that I was able to purchase new. The Hackintosh, though, didn't come in to play until March of 2016 and only lasted a couple years.

Now, for the past year, I've been running New Hackintosh - Andromeda, an i7-7700K @4.2GHz, with a MacVidCards' GTX-1070 8GB Card and a secondary EVGA GTX-1050 2GB Card. In addition, in the last year, I picked up a Classic Mac Pro 5,1 - Daedalus, which I've tinkered with and have a Mac Flashed GTX-970 4GB Card, and a secondary EVGA GTX-1050 2GB Card. Both of these Systems are running TBar's CUDA90 V0.97 App. I run these two Systems 15 Hours a day from 6PM Pacific to 9AM Pacific.

Since going GPU three years ago, my Total Credits have jumped from 6 Million to just about 29 Million. GPU Crunching is DEFINITELY the better way to Number Crunch! 😀

I do have one other Part Time Cruncher. My dad's i7 7700, @3.6GHz, with Integrated Intel HD-630. This System ONLY Crunches a couple hours a day, and ONLY on the HD-630.

I hope to continue Crunching for a LOOOOONG time to come.

As long as you keep them cool, by putting them in the path of a 120mm or 140mm fan, Android devices are a great way to run work at a low cost. I've got 3 devices now running 24/7, and with a full battery and on the loader constantly they'll take up about 5kW per year per device. Yes, not really worrisome.

I bought two big fans and two external fan controllers with Molex connectors, with two power bricks to Molex connector. Put the fans on those, they run at 5V instead of the normal 12V. Two bricks because the devices lie in different parts of the room. I only have to keep an eye on my page and when I see that my RAC is going down, it means one or more of the devices need a reboot because they forget they have a wifi connection. And they'll need some regular dusting. :-)

but they where old and power hungry.
so i stop a bit.
then i built 4 pc. much more modern.
power cost drop so much i am able to run them 24/7 gain oddly.

The 2 boxes I have running 24/7 are running things like a AMD 2600 with a couple of older gtx 1060's (Windows) and a AMD 3900x (Linux with Tbar's All-In-One) with "several" gpus. According to my power bill I am now drawing about what I used to draw a year ago. So hurray for more efficient hardware!

so true. current(not main desktop)
all 3 builds i got running with ether dual,single or 5 card set up(5 card is older cards slim form factor)
they overall takes less power then the old dual core systems i ran.
5 of them i had.
