Really...?

It takes a pandemic and thousands of deaths to finally take positive action against being slimed to death?!...

Coronavirus prompts PM into obesity crackdown
wrote:
The prime minister is set to announce new measures to curb obesity next week, and they are expected to include a ban on TV junk food adverts before 21:00.

It comes amid growing evidence people who are overweight or obese are at greater risk from coronavirus.

The measures are yet to be finalised but are also likely to include a ban on online ads for unhealthy foods, and limits on in-store promotions...

We may yet get slimed a little less by the food industrial Marketing:

Obesity: Unhealthy 'buy one get one free' deals targeted
wrote:
"Buy one get one free" deals on unhealthy food will be banned as part of the government's bid to tackle obesity in England. The plan also includes restrictions on where foods high in fat and sugar can be promoted in-store, and new rules for displaying calories on menus.

A ban on junk food adverts before 21:00 has been confirmed - for the whole UK...

... other measures being taken are:

  • A national campaign to help people lose weight and eat more healthily after the "wake-up call" of coronavirus
  • A consultation on whether to stop fast food adverts online altogether
  • A review of traffic light labelling on food and drinks sold in shops
  • A consultation on making calories labelling on alcohol drinks mandatory
  • Greater incentives for GPs to tackle excess weight, including the use of apps and exercise-on-referral...

... The key is how businesses react this time, having previously been against the measures. The Food and Drink Federation has again given a hostile response...

Is censorship needed against misleading advertising and egregiously profitable 'business practices'?

Or should we have better education and a better health for all?...

'Ultra-Processed' Junk Food Linked to Advanced Ageing at Cellular Level
wrote:
People who eat a lot of industrially processed junk food are more likely to exhibit a change in their chromosomes linked to ageing...

... Three or more servings of so-called "ultra-processed food" per day doubled the odds that strands of DNA and proteins called telomeres, found on the end of chromosomes, would be shorter compared to people who rarely consumed such foods... Short telomeres are a marker of biological ageing at the cellular level, and the study suggests that [the processed foods] diet is a factor in driving the cells to age faster...

... Ultra-processed foods are industrially manufactured substances composed of some mix of oils, fats, sugars, starch, and proteins that contain little if any whole or natural foods. They often include artificial flavourings, colourings, emulsifiers, preservatives, and other additives that increase shelf-life and profit margins.

These same properties, however, also mean that such foods are nutritionally poor...

Subway rolls ruled too sugary to be bread in Ireland
wrote:
The rolls used in Subway's hot sandwiches contain too much sugar to be considered bread, according to Ireland's Supreme Court ... the court ruled that because of the level of sugar in the rolls they cannot be taxed as bread, which is classed as a "staple product" with zero VAT...

... ingredients in bread such as sugar and fat should not exceed 2% of the weight of flour in the dough...

... in Subway sandwiches the sugar content is around 10% of the flour in the dough for both white and wholegrain rolls...

Sheeesh! By 'eck!!! 10% sugar!!!

Is that supposed to be bread?!

Or is that some bastardization of candy cake?

Whichever! That is nothing like my fine home made bread that has one tea-spoon of sugar (a few grams) to feed the yeast for a 1kg loaf of bread...

That whole angle, about the fast food industry being malevolent, is just a bunch of BS.
There is nothing wrong with fast food, if consumed in moderation.
If somebody chooses to gorge themselves on it, OF COURSE they are going to gain weight.
It's high calorie food.
That comes down to their emotional problems and lack of self worth and lack of constraint.
You can get fat on Ramen Noodles, if you choose to eat enough of it.

Unless you are advocating that the government regulate what you are allowed to eat every day.
Calorie tickets required at the grocery store?

It's just another case of the liberal mindset always looking for someone else to blame for their own self inflicted troubles.

Oh, and you mind handing me that bucket of KFC there?

Not all ills are the result of the "liberal mind set".
Let's face it fast food is fed to the masses by a very limited number of large corporations, who make their money by buying food as cheaply as possible and selling it at inflated prices on just about every main street in the USA, all too often driving the little local mom & pop decent food places to the wall. And that principal is not a liberal one, but one of the right.

A very clear explanation of one of the keystones of "right wing" philosophy.

You make assumptions without any idea of where people's political allegiances lie. I would say that you have never "debated" with any real communists as you don't understand what they actually believe but make some assumptions based on a zero knowledge base and get it very wrong.

Just put a delivery order in with McD.
Yummmy quarter pounder with cheeses.
Two of them, thank you very much.
And many extra fries.
Extra chemicals and onions, please.
Hold the mayo, that stuff will kill ya.
Gotta luv the fries for extra luv for Mc D's.
It is the highest profit item on their menu, of course.
And with extra chemicals, it's a perfect add-on for the heart clogging burger fats.
Oh, I luv McD's.

Meow.

Subway’s tuna is not tuna, but a ‘mixture of various concoctions,’ a lawsuit alleges
By Tim Carman
The Washington Post

Subway describes its tuna sandwich as “freshly baked bread” layered with “flaked tuna blended with creamy mayo then topped with your choice of crisp, fresh veggies.” It’s a description designed to activate the saliva glands — and separate you from your money.

It’s also fiction, at least partially, according to a recent lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The complaint alleges the ingredient billed as “tuna” for the chain’s sandwiches and wraps contains absolutely no tuna.

And the Subway "bread" has so much (sweet addiction inducing) added sugar that it is better described as cake or biscuit!

See earlier on this thread...

For myself, I haven't been in a McD or Subway since some years ago since finding out about what I see as their very unhealthy dubious ways...

The more I read about the fast food industry and their "offerings" the more I'm glad that I do my best to avoid the big chains as far as possible. This was much to the surprise of colleagues from China who were under the impression that everyone in the west only ate McD and the like.

As I've personally seen, as part of those 'offerings', it isn't only the customers/consumers that are 'short changed' for the offerings:
