Message 2073958 - Posted: 21 Apr 2021, 21:54:51 UTC - in response to Message 2073945.

I wonder what the total $ cost of that silly little debacle was?
Interesting question. Would love to know the answer.
What got me was many within the sport were saying that it was one of their normal bluffs to extort more money from UEFA.
That is until I heard the length of the contract...
...177 pages?
No, this was real & the deceit involved...
...now all we need is to get the Yanks out of the game.
The harshest comment I saw was one regarding Ed Woodward.
"A treacherous Englishman betraying his country for more money."
Then it is found that he worked for J.P.Morgan in the early 2000's.
No wonder the Glaziers got into Man Utd.
A rich football club in profit..
...until they bought it & instantly put them into £750M debt.
Must have taken a leaf out of Trump's book.

The duh from this side of the pond is they sold the TV rights to your games over here and the online bookies are having a field day with a new game to offer, so it all makes perfect sense.

From what has been recently reported 8M (can't remember if that is £ or $) to date & does not include any other costs/penalties.
Don't know whether that is per team or in total. They think it is all over...
...it is not
"You cannot get out of the contract like this - they are binding contracts," he added.
When asked what the penalty was for leaving the project, Perez did not answer.
Can't answer for Italy or Spain, but here in the UK, it can be argued that the contract be voided as it was illegal. They did not have the permission of the Premier League as laid down in their contract.
A right legal can of worms.
Then there is this: I knew that the contract wasn't done over a business lunch on the back of a fag packet!
He added he was "sad and disappointed" by the reaction to the project, which the clubs have been working on "for around three years".

Now for the biggest laugh to date of the 21st century...
Maybe we didn't explain it well, but they also didn't give us an opportunity to explain it," said the 74-year-old.

Much worse than the ESL fiasco is one more deadly, now it just needs putting to bed. Unfortunately, lawyers...
...Claimants get 21k but lawyers get nearly 83k (per claimant).
Between 2000 and 2014, the Post Office prosecuted 736 sub-postmasters and sub-postmistresses - an average of one a week.
Lawyers...
...lovely jubbley, can we find the missing 142?
From the 1st link:
So far, nobody at the Post Office or Fujitsu has been held accountable, although the High Court judge said he would refer Fujitsu to the Director of Public Prosecutions for possible further action because he had "grave concerns" about the evidence of the company's employees.
Yeah right. CPS taking action on that - PMSL.

From the 2nd link:
Neil Hudgell, who represented 29 of the former sub-postmasters, said the Post Office "has been found to have been an organisation that not only turned a blind eye to the failings in its hugely expensive IT system, but positively promoted a culture of cover-up and subterfuge in the pursuit of reputation and profit".
"They readily accepted that loss of life, liberty and sanity for many ordinary people as a price worth paying in that pursuit," he said.

Now back to the ESL fiasco. What football means to...

There were more than 700 prosecutions based on Horizon evidence. The commission and the Post Office are asking anyone else who believes their conviction to be unsafe to come forward.
They shouldn't have to come forward. The post Office should be actively seeking them.
1 down - more to follow?
Clergy so stepped down because of her morals? Where were those morals when at the Post Office?

Is this where Marketing and 'looks/style' proved deadly over good sense?...

Peloton recalls treadmills after child's death

Ouch! How did that get past safety reviews?!! Incredible!

We've had safety guards around whizzing belts and pulleys and on the ends of escalators (moving walkways) for well over a century!

Did Peloton trip up in a deadly way for the sake of Marketing a 'look' regardless of that 'look' being physically dangerous... Deliberately so??

You can bet the hazard was well known and that some psychopathic greedy manager tried hiding behind the excuse that "it won't happen" or "give instructions in the manual not to go near there"...!

Been up against such management "it won't happen" for the obvious and inevitable to eventually costly happen... The real problem is where the manager can then 'delegate' the 'problem' away 'somewhere else' onto others and continue to hide inside a teflon suit...

This is where we need to impose personal responsibility...

They shouldn't have to come forward. The post Office should be actively seeking them. ...

I suspect they are being 'active seeked out' so as to sidestep any expensive claims...

Post Office scandal: Former staff contacted over {their} prosecutions
wrote:
... The clearing of the names of the 39 former staff came after six other convictions were overturned in December, meaning that more people have been affected than in any other miscarriage of justice in the UK...

... Asked if other parties - such as the Horizon's developers, Fujitsu - should be held accountable, Ms Page added: "I think there will be malicious prosecution claims.

"That's one of the reasons why the Post Office contested the appeals in the way that they did. "They only accepted the limited argument. They didn't accept the wider argument that their prosecution regime was a wider affront to the public conscience.

"And they resisted that because they had an eye to the fact that malicious prosecution claims would be coming down the line and of course not just the 39, but now as we see it, hundreds and hundreds of them."

So, is the Post Office playing the cynical game of delay and procrastination and obfuscation in the hope that most of their victims will have died before gaining any fair justice?

We really do need to make company officials personally responsible for their actions and decisions and consequences...

Note that this abuse has ruined people's lives, and in some desperate cases, killed the victims.

Ain't progress a b*tch

Ah yes, metal fatigue. Have we seen it before?

For the aluminum shell trains, more likely the problem is poor design where differential expansion/contraction between the aluminum body and steelwork on the chassis has overstressed the joints?

Or has there been unintended breakage from the late addition into the design to add diesel engines for the failure to electrify some sections of the route?

All an expensive unholy compromise?...

Design & construction flaws.
Will the same be said for the Hitachi 800 series?
Mr Ford added that repairing aluminium trains is a "very difficult process" because of the electronic equipment inside them.
He said: "If you get a welding torch up against the [electronics]... it can fry [them] so the first thing you have to do is take all the electronics out, disconnect all the electrical equipment, that takes a day or two, then you do the repair, then you have to put it all back again."

I've been following this story for a month or so.
This last weekend there was a planned intensive check of the two fleets scheduled after a few failures. I guess they found far more than expected and decided to do a 100% inspection and a lot of repairs are required.
These vehicles have no steel chassis being all aluminium (which is a feature that we first saw about 30 years ago in the UK). What that article doesn't really some very poorly executed welds combined with a marginal design for parts of the aluminium structure. Note in this case marginal does not imply "cheaper", just that some of the design assumptions were not as good as they should have been, and indeed some decisions may have been more expensive to implement than those based on "correct" assumptions.

Thanks for that.

Is there any connection/coincidence with the change in design to add diesel power to the units?
