I got the 2630Lv2 chips for exactly those reasons. They are very cheap, low power use, and “good enough†clock speed to run GPUs. I don’t run any CPU WUs anymore. I am beginning to feel price sensitive about my electricity costs. If I still want to run cpu Seti tasks will the cpu still run with less power at full cpu loads? I should know by Christmas if my operations change has dropped my electricity costs enough. If not, sounds like another reasonable step while still running 2 cpus would be back-grade to a couple of 2630Lv2 chips. Yes I am confident with fewer threads and slower cpu speeds the cpu production would drop. But would it put me into a good budget place. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

I could be wrong but i see no reason to use big CPU's and very expensive MB & cases to crunch, from all i know, a single GPU will do the same (or more) work with a lot less power and cost. Ian & TBar hosts are a live prove of that. My 2 cents. |

I understand that but every once in a while I get "cpu envy" and my 2nd choice Bonic project only does cpu crunching. Just thinking about a compromise between my cpu envy and my power bill :) Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Tom M asked me to post with my config. This is my all-purpose Linux system at work: this is what I have currently. AZZA 9000B case(a beast @ 60-65lbs as equipped) Seasonic Snow Silent 1050 watt PSU(Enermax Maxrevo 1500w ready to go in, once I can lift this beast as I'm having surgery soon on My left elbow joint, I have a bone fragment there and it's very painful) EVGA X79 Dark Intel x79 Chipset Deepcool Captain 360EX cpu cooler(idles at 30-33C, 45-55C when running) 3-Noctua Industrial 3000rpm 120x25mm fans 1x E5-1650 v2 @ 3.70GHz(this cpu is not supported by the bios, so 3.7GHz is the best overclock this cpu can do with this 2.14 Bios) 32GB Corsair Vengeance 4x8GB 1866MHz ram @ 1.6v(1.5v was tried, I got a b7 error as do others, so I took 2 out, rebooted, set ram at 1.6v in the bios, turned the PC off and inserted the 2 dimms I took out and it runs) 1-Asus GTX 970 Turbo 1-Palit GTX 970 Upgrades to come to the Beast(Pegasus): Enermax Maxrevo 1500w psu(waiting on a shelf as I type this) E5-2687W v2 3.4GHz(supported in the Bios) 150w instead of 130w Alphacool ST30 480 v.2 Radiator(to replace a 240 in an Alphacool Eisbaer cpu cooler that needs some work due to a leak, leak since fixed) 3- PNY/Zotac 2080 Super or 3-2080 Ti Blowers(Zotac does not make a super blower though PNY does, if Zotac did I'd buy it, eventually) I already have one 1500w installed in one PC and another will also have a 1500w psu, I have 3 Enermax 1500w Gold psus total.
