Message 2023647 - Posted: 19 Dec 2019, 2:52:53 UTC - in response to Message 2023645.

The complaint really should go into the Nvidia Developer's Forum. But . . . . there is no subforum for OpenCL and it even rarely comes up in a keyword search of the entire forum. The closest match probably would be the GPU-Accelerated Libraries subforum. This is a compute issue and not a gaming or graphics issue.

Complaining in a graphics oriented gaming forum will get lost in the noise.

Message 2023724 - Posted: 19 Dec 2019, 16:16:46 UTC - in response to Message 2023191.

It has been a while since I messed with Windows drivers or registry entries, plus and I am not familiar with NVidia GPU drivers.

I attempted to "roll-back" the GPU driver using Windows Device Manager > Display Adapters > NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti > right-click Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver

In reply to the reason, I typed: incompatibility with seti@home GPU processing

I then rebooted. Everything is working OK but I do not know the current driver number.

How do I find the driver number to check it is in 431.60? Maybe find and Right-click the executable file and then choose its properties?

Another question is can I use seti@home beta for GPU processing?

Thanks!

Mike

According to your host page you only rolled back to 441.08 which still has the issue. It will pop up again when you get more VHAR tasks. I would recommend using DDU to totally wipe out the old drivers and don't allow Microsoft to manage your 3rd party drivers which should come straight from nvidia. Download DDU, reboot your computer into SAFE mode, then run DDU under safe mode. reboot back into the normal OS, install the drivers from nvidia using their installer and select the install without Geforce Experience. Then stop using the Windows interface to manage drivers, do it manually.

DDU can be obtained here

then download the 431.60 driver straight from nvidia here:

Under advanced options would doing a clean install of driver 431.60 not do the same thing?

not always. DDU does a deeper level removal than "Clean Install"

if you're not having issues with your existing drivers then Clean Install can be OK to get new drivers in. but best to totally wipe it all with DDU. I've just made it a habit whenever I change drivers on Windows to use this method.

What we need is a game that exhibits these issues... Priority bump will occur... :)

Do you know of any games that run under OpenCL?

Cheers.

Message 2023780 - Posted: 19 Dec 2019, 23:23:06 UTC - in response to Message 2023725.

On my Windows 10 PC, I tried to use the supplied driver link in this thread provided by Ian&Steve C. from https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/148865/en-us but got an error dialog titled "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue" when starting the installation that "your system is configured to require a DCH package". I have a screen cap of this dialog if needed.

So I contacted NVIDIA support and they eventually provided me with a link to a 431.60 DCH WHQL driver at https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/148868/en-us

I downloaded the install executable and viewed it in the download directory and choose the "Run as Administrator" right-click option. I chose the default unpack directory. I accepted the license agreement and chose a Custom (Advanced) install. I checked the box for "Perform a clean install" . I needed to reboot for the install to continue.

So the 431.60 driver is installed and seti@home GPU tasks are again processing OK. Yeah!

Among the symptoms when using the current driver were tasks that would have 5 minutes Remaining that would change to 1-2 days Remaining once started. Once the old 431.60 driver was installed, these tasks processed and completed normally.

I did not yet install DDU once I understand what it does. if not, I will keep the 431.60 downloaded file handy so I can reinstall it if the auto-update feature hammers the old 431.60 driver.

I have the NVIDIA support case open (Incident: 191219-000590) and the emailed chat summary. Contact me if you need the details.

I went to https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/studio-drivers/39/332833/nvidia-studio-driver-44166-feedback-thread-release/ and upvoted Bruce's comments. I also added my incident case info as a reply (name etzmike). A seti@home developer needs to submit the bug report.

Raistmer is the only developer still around for the Windows apps. All the rest moved on or passed away.

Sorry Mike, didn't know needed the DCH driver, but had you totally wiped out the existing driver with DDU, it wouldn't have mattered.

For reference, you can download both the Standard driver and the DCH driver direct from Nvidia, you just have to select 'DCH' in the dropdown window during driver selection for your system in advanced driver search. Unfortunately Nvidia doesn't make it very easy to get this level of search detail.

From http://nvidia.com:
Drivers -> All Nvidia Drivers -> (at the bottom) Beta and Older Drivers

Is the Driver problem still a thing? Because I recently installed Windows 10 on my Machine and installed the latest nvidia driver 441.66.

There's a thread where some are discussing the Game Ready Driver vs. Studio Driver.
What do you think? What is better for crunching?
And: Are there still problems?

The reason I'm asking is:
I have
181 Workunits: verification outstanding
23 Workunits: verification without result
324 WUs: valid
0 WUs: invalid
9 WUs: error

not all workunits are affected by the problem. it only affects the Arecibo VHAR tasks. you can process all of the other ones fine. also if you're not using the SoG app you can process all workunits fine.
