Just got apprised that AMD released new Adrenaline drivers for Windows 10 today. One of the fixed issues is with Seti@home result overflows.

Fixed result overflows that can be experienced with Radeon RX 5700 series when using SETI@Home.

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-20-1-1
Need to have some of the known 5700XT users that have responded to PM's give the new drivers a test run.

. . Fingers crossed ...

Stephen

That’s great news if it’s fixed!
And if it is, even better still to point it out to Nvidia and suggest that it's time for them to pick up their game & sort out their Arecibo VHAR issue with every driver since v431.60

I can do testing with my 5700 xt if it's still needed. Anything I need to do beyond updating the drivers and allowing ati gpus to be used?

That should be enough. I would be sure to totally remove the previous AMD drivers with DDU before installing the new drivers, just to start on a clean slate.

According to AMD, the new driver also need a change to the OpenCL compile flags (get rid of -funsafe-math-optimizations). We'll be testing that in beta soon.

Is this needed on the windows install also? I think the vast majority of people running these cards are on Windows, and the extent of installing the drivers is simply double clicking the .exe and following the prompts.

If this requires a command line install to work on Windows, I’m afraid the fix will be moot since no one is going to do that.

As of about 30 seconds ago, the modified app (8.24__opencl_ati*) is on beta. Enjoy, I hope.

Oh maybe I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about flags for the driver install, instead of flags for compiling the science app. My apologies.

I have one of those Radeon RX5700's and have installed the new drivers after a DDU of old ones. Have requested jobs for ATI GPU in preferences *crosses fingers*

Don't do that here!

Go over and attach to SETI Beta and try it there. ;-)

Cheers.

Message 2027239 - Posted: 10 Jan 2020, 23:57:29 UTC

I've found a couple of machines at Beta, However, it appears they are being sent the OLD 8.22 App, not the New 8.24 Apps;
https://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/results.php?hostid=89080
https://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/results.php?hostid=63626

Is there some problem sending the New 8.24 Apps? The New Apps still say 0 GigaFLOPS, meaning No tasks have been sent. https://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/apps.php

I think I've fixed that problem, so the 8.22s should no longer be sent.

So far 4 results have come back. One has been through the validator and it validated successfully.

Now have 3 validated, but not a wide variety of hardware yet...

222 results have gone out so far with the new app versions, so we'll have better statistics tomorrow.

Hopefully some good data will come forth. Those 3 machines are sporting older cards, not NAVI hardware

Have you heard anything from Urs lately? Is he working on the Linux App?
I found StrayCat here, https://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/results.php?hostid=89082 He has a RX 5700 XT.

Unfortunately BETA run out of tasks, which makes it a bit hard to test the new app......
But Sten what we really need more of those RX 5700/XT users to participate in Beta ATM with this with this current problem to get to the bottom of it. Maybe Mr. Kevvy can point them in the way of Beta to get the problem finally solved. ;-)

Cheers.
