I searched the boards and didn't find the info I'm curious about.

Here's a few lines from the status:
Data Distribution State SETI@home v7 # Astropulse # SETI@home v8 #
Results ready to send 0 0 660,113 0m
Results out in the field 0 7,962 5,591,267 0m
Results returned and awaiting validation 0 9,861 4,509,486 0m

I'm confused about the wording. Aren't we (volunteer crunchers) sending results to you (SETI)? I guess I'm used to receiving "work units" or "tasks".

There seems to be quite a backlog in validation, far more so than results ready to send. Who does the validating-SETI or crunchers?

Maybe the Server Status page should have some descriptive links or a HELP page.

Thanks,

Win

Hi Win,

"Results ready to send" means the Work Units that SETI has on hand ready to send to us.

"Results out in the field" means all the Work Units that we the volunteers have that are being worked on.

"Results returned and awaiting validation" means the Work Units we have sent in after processing them that are waiting for SETI to validate and give us credit for.

I hope this helps to be more understandable. :)

Have a great day! :)

Every task is sent to two different users. It will "validate" when both users send back a good result.

Sometimes it has to be sent to another user if the results aren't quite the same, or a user never returns their work unit

Currently there is the WOW event that starts on the 15 of this month and sometimes some people "bunker" that is do not send results back until the event starts so as to "leap ahead"

It evens out over the two weeks of the event and the validation should get back to normal.
