Racism is alive and being honored in Tennessee.

"Washington (CNN)Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee signed a proclamation declaring Saturday "Nathan Bedford Forrest Day," in honor of the Confederate Army general who was a slave trader and an early member of the Ku Klux Klan. "

I don't know about you but I see those fighting against the Union were Terrorists and Traitors. Why in the world are we honoring the Ku Klux Klan?

It's very sad to know that there are still some about who just don't want to get along with others just because they're a bit different. :-(

I believe they are saying I am racist. Who knows what their position on this issue is. I don't.
They are free to undo their work any time they like.

I really hate getting into politics, everyone has different opinions for sure. But....imo, I have seen a LOT more people (especially down here) get vocal about their racism and prejudices. I believe a open-minded black president was just too much for some to handle.

I agree. They kept their racism bottled up for eight years and wouldn't say it but now it has exploded all over like a pressure cooker that has popped its safety valve.

This is where better education and better wider communication is needed...

It seems to be all too fateful for isolated groups (or groups of people that make themselves isolated) to become extremists in whatever random ways. Or for them to become lost in self-imagined 'olden days of glory'...

Is this where freely available internet access to all could help? And at a much lower cost than yet more prisons for whatever lost souls!

Or do we need 'better' or more wide ranging TV to show people more cooperative examples to live better and more happily?

Note that not all isolated groups turn bad or rotten or negatively/destructively/xenophobically extreme...

There are some religious groups that give themselves a positive vocation to do good in our world that seem to positively thrive for themselves and all others around.

More cooperation and love and happiness needed?

I understand. On the so many opinions part. I was a daily WaPo commenter until I decided to take a break. Actually the Abortion people were the ones that sucked the last bit of restraint I had going so i knew I needed to take a break from Washington Post :)

Right now there is a surge of Reich wing activity. It is as if some are paid. There seems to be systematic manipulations such as suggesting of Democracy is kaput or that it's useless to resist. That people of Color shouldn't vote.
What has to happen is to keep moving to the left because we are awaiting the deaths of the old and each new generation is further away from the culture of white supremacy.
So hang in there. This is not a struggle that is won in 100 years but it is being won.

Obama said it best, that progress in the USA doesn't always travel in a straight line it zigzags.

The Internet is making it possible for us to isolate even more. We get news feeds, YouTube, Twiter and the ilk that are aimed at our likes . Often this is done for commercial advertising purposes. So I argue that while yes we have more access people can stay in their own zone and never interact with opposing views better then ever.

More TV means more places for vile extremists to espouse their views. More internet means more places for vile extremists to gather and amplify their hate.

Face it, hate sells, love goes bankrupt.

I hate to say it, I've kinda done this. Google news will let you say "no...I dont want more news about trump jr" "no news about celebrities" you can basically tweak the app to show what you want to see.
