Viral Area 51 ‘raid’ amasses 1 million recruits, gets Air Force warning

It’s “Mission: Impossible” meets “Mars Attacks” — and it’s going down at Area 51.

LOL:)
“[Area 51] is an open training range for the US Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces,” USAF spokeswoman Laura McAndrews told the Washington Post. “The US Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets.”

Ah yes, the land of unexploded bombs and ammo, just waiting for some person to set them off and go BOOM!

What? No state of the art underground vaults in the US?

It is a gunnery bombing practice range. Lots and lots of "duds" that maybe aren't so dud.
It is also the place the USA likes to use to test nukes, so it is kind of "hot" in places, like Chernobyl.
I can just see a million fools running through there now. Can't envision a million lead lined coffins though.

Yep, live ammo training, I remember it very well, the military doesn't use blanks.

Every once in a while I feel the home shake, it's cause I live near a training base @ Fort Irwin, I even saw 2 jet fighters turn over Barstow CA and then proceed to break the sound barrier, they could have been Navy or Marines or even the US hAir Force...

Sadly, I honestly think there is a good chance of this attempt ending in bloodshed.
I wouldn't want to be the first fool in line that thinks they can stroll through the gates of a US military installation and live to tell about it.
Hope cool heads prevail and the conflict can be avoided.
Just don't even go there.

Should add that the gates are way beyond the entrance. Here is the line in the sand.

I'll bet some people will ignore the warnings in their holiday adventures.
Like the American fellow Otto who in a North Korean hotel ignored the warnings "Staff only"...
And like the two fellows from Britain and Belgium "touristing" the Muskö naval base...

Military Installations are governed by Military Law(USMJ) and that includes everyone, even civvys who trespass, that thing on the left?

A camera, at one time I'd think that was a guard post, now that can be done by a few people from one location with armed MP's dispatched as needed.

Guys... it's a joke. The vast majority of the people who've signed up won't actually go, or if they do, they'll just buy some merchandise at the Alien Center and chat with fellow alien enthusiasts. The buzz is also very likely to die as quickly as it rose and be long forgotten by September.

Of course, I wouldn't it put past some people to take it seriously. Those who have more sense will realise it's suicidal before doing it; and it not, well... I wonder which of them would get the Darwin Award?
Gazing at the skies, hoping for contact... Unlikely, but it would be such a fantastic opportunity to learn.

We know it's joke, but the Air Force is getting prepared for some who might think otherwise.
Somebody is going. The hotels in the area are nearly fully booked. I could only find 10 rooms in all of Roswell. And they are charging double their usual rate. Rosewell Inn is normally $49 a night.

But isn't Roswell Inn located in New Mexico?
Area 51 is in the Mojave Desert in Nevada.
Perhaps you can find cheaper and closer accomodations in New Vegas.

I'd be going if I lived in the US. ;-) But just as an opportunity to visit the region, not to storm a military base. As for the Air Force reaction, their job isn't humour...

Not much to see out there. That is why they put it where it is. Desert, rocks, cactus, more rocks unexploded ordinance, alien remains, more rocks. Oh there are some really cool rocks. Then there is vegas. But no says anything about that.
