Should I get two new 1070 or 1080 vs 1660TI. The 1660ti are easy to get new. The 1070 and 1080 second hand. Not sure what would perform better.

Whenever this kind of question arises, you should always review Shaggie76's charts.

The GTX 1660Ti is rated higher than both the 1070 or 1070 Ti and just below the 1080. The GTX 1660Ti is at the top of the chart for efficiency per watt.

Hi Keith,

Yep, I'm glad I dropped some coin on my GTX 1660 Ti.

Have a great day! :)

For someone just building a simple crunching computer out of old parts to use the Linux special app, or simply converting an older Windows 7 machine, I don't see how anyone could argue the case of NOT getting the GTX 1660Ti. It's relatively cheap, has high production output almost equivalent to a GTX 1080 and sips the power at 135W. That Quadro P2000 that elec999 is using only pulls 75W from the slot. These type of cards are very useful for the refurbished business class computers like a Dell or HP. As long as they have an open full height PCIe slot, they should be on anyone's short list for parts.

I need to learn how to use search and read before I ask the question. That P2000 I have it in my computer at work and was asked to install Ubuntu to test some applications, so I decided to test drive the card for a bit.

So grab the AIO installer and give it a go. Just use the BOINC installation as is with the default CUDA90 application. Install the 410 series drivers. The one advantage the Quadro and Tesla cards have over the consumer Geforce cards is that FP32 and FP64 ability is not crippled like it is in the consumer cards. That means it does math and video transforms very well which should give the special app a distinct advantage or equivalent over running the special app on consumer Geforce cards.

I would have to go read the full-fat GP106 architecture breakdown over at Anandtech to see what register widths didn't get crippled that get done to the consumer cards.
