Hi everyone!! I'm a new user of SETI@home and i not understand what is Wow Event that will start at 15/08. What should i do at the event? I not find any guide. Thanks!!Welcome to SETI@home, Morris, and thanks for contributing computer cycles to the project ! In a nutshell, the 8th SETI@home Wow! Event 2019 is an international friendly competition between individuals, teams, countries and - yes - zodiac/constellation signs/groups. Participants (whose accounts cover anything from one low power device to networked farms of hundreds of high-powered, optimized rigs) are more or less regular folks like you and me, crunching data as usual for the competition. Some of us just make sure all their devices are powered and crunching SETI@homre-only data during the competition time period, and are connected to report processed data to setiathome.berkeley.edu at the critical timely moments needed by SETI-Germany for compilation purposes. Some other hosts' owners need their high-throuput machines to bunk data units and spoof their IDs to contribute efficiently to the project because they have highly-powered and optimized rigs/apps that have outgrown the limits imposed by the BOINC/SETI@home clients' limitations (I will say nothing else abt these issues, already discussed at lenght in this thread). Others do this only during Wow! Events for bragging rights' purposes (there are no financial gains for doing so). Most of the participants just enjoy this yearly friendly/geeky/nerdy competition, knowing that what matters most in the end is that interest in SETI@home is being revived, and production of processed data units (at least for the competition's duration) is increased (increasing SETI@home's odds of hitting the big cosmic jackpot). Finally, this event is a good test of the setiathome.berkeley.edu servers, and also a test of the project's scientists, managers, technicians and coders' generally excellent flame-retardant properties of their hairs. More specifically, the winning registered participants (you can register here btw :)Â -- if I remember correctly; 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each of the 3 or 4 categories; teams, groups and countries , depending on their total accumulated credits or cobblestones (or the number of their recruited team members - someone will surely correct me on the details). during the August 15, 20019 16:00 UTC - August 29, 2019 16:00 UTC time period. Any S@h data you presently crunch during the test/fine-tuning period (before the 15th, 16:00 UTC) doesn't count in regard to the Wow! Event. The aforementioned links will give you access to live (differed) statistics for your team and yourself. Low wages, bitter false positives, long hours of data crunching, overheating CPU's & GPU, and safe return doubtful without caffeinated beverages; but bragging rights, honour & recognition in event of technosignal detection; what are you waiting for? Â ^^ if i understanded, on other words, Wow Event is a friendly competition that all users calculate the work units as always but at the end the moderators create a statistics for celebrate the user/group/constellation signs winner. When it will start, i don't see anything of different. It's correct? Apr 3, 1999 - May 3, 2020 |
