Well the U.S. has passed 110,000 reported deaths now as it barrels toward 2 million reported cases (sometime early next week), but Brazil out did them again on both counts over the last 24hrs as they fly past the 600,000 mark for cases. Meanwhile the U.K. looks to likely to become the 2nd country to record 40,000 deaths in the next 24hrs while they will likely become the dominate E.U. country (yes you people are still technically in it) when it passes Spain for 4th place sometime next week before India tramples both of them as Italy will be forced to give up 6th place to them in the next 24hrs or so. Saudi Arabia is set to take 15th place from Canada in the next day, but that won't last long as Pakistan has just dumped China out of 17th spot and has both of them in its sights. Bangladesh will also knock Belgium out of 20th spot tomorrow and even as Sweden is mounting a fight back by retaking 24th place back from Ecuador (possible start of 2nd wave there?), but they won't keep that for long as South Africa will get both of them by the end of this weekend. But pretty much E.U. domination of the top places is fast coming to an end. Out of the 1st countries reporting cases that were up in the top ranks to begin with Israel and Japan are now down to 43rd & 44th spots, Denmark and South Korea are down to 51st & 52nd, Norway to 61st, Australia and Finland at 64th & 65th places, New Zealand at 103rd and then there's that shining light of Vietnam way down in 151st spot. |

I think it's more disturbing that many news media report research results like that. There are LOT of other reasons why the risk of dying of Covid-19 is higher. Well the news media are apparently dry of headlines that sell. |

For those like me who have a shiny dome, this might be disturbing. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11788266/bald-men-higher-risk-severe-coronavirus/ the original, much better written, is in https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/bald-men-higher-risk-severe-case-covid-19-research-finds/ which is behind a paywall for most. |

Her name, and infamy, do ring a bell. And it is worth noting that typhoid is caused by a bacterium not a a virus. Huh? What rioters? Do you refer to the peaceful protesters? Are you referring to the organized criminal enterprises? You know, the gangs that have had their profits dry up because their customers don't have cash to spend on drugs, hookers and gambling? They simply had to supplant their earnings. Capitalism at its finest. |

It seems that France's couple of huge bump in numbers recently were mistakes and corrections have been made that has now put them down to 12th place promoting Germany, Peru, Turkey and Iran up the list. The U.S. has now passed 1.9 million cases (out of the world's total of 6.5 million) and looks on course to pass 110,000 deaths within the next 24hrs, but again Brazil recorded more new cases and deaths over the last 24hrs. Mexico has become the 14th country to record 100,000 cases, Saudi Arabia has become the 16th country to record 90,000 (and likely the next to 100,000) while Pakistan has become the 18th country to record 80,000 and for some reason (maybe like France's) Sweden threw in number today that made them the 25th country to report 40,000 which I though South Africa was on course to beat them to. Thankfully there are still a few rays of sunshine around the world. |

The mystery about virus transmission without symptoms has been known about for years. I'm not sure when I first heard the description, probably 40 or 50 years ago when people who carried a virus but exhibited no symptoms themselves were called "carriers". From the WHO: Typhoid fever is a life-threatening infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi. It is usually spread through contaminated food or water. It appears, even with antibiotics and vaccines. Disease prevention by medicine's is a never-ending process. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. --- George Santayana Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. --- Lord Acton |

Well Brazil beat the U.S. on both new cases and deaths over the last day and is now the 4th country to pass 30,000 recorded deaths. India also became the 7th country to record over 200,000 cases. :-( |

But sadly politics is playing with the lives of those who it's suppose to protect from this pandemic. Since Putin will agree with your opinion. 'nuff said. But sadly politics is playing with the lives of those who it's suppose to protect from this pandemic. Is it about the USA? And many other states also. I wonder if she'll also wind up as being another of Putin's "casualties"? Yes, KGB agents will eat her alive, of course. Really, your fantasies about Russia is very far from reality. In comparing with Vasilyeva, dozen thousands of opposition persons does more active protests and nothing bad happens with them. About Vasilyeva, after her advertizing-provocative action, she was arrested for some hours, only. It's not the USA, she can breathe. |

But sadly politics is playing with the lives of those who it's suppose to protect from this pandemic. Another fool idiot ruler who denied/denies that there's a problem with with the virus. The doctor who defied Russia’s strongman. The virus stopped his run for lifetime dictatorship and now this doctor is exposing the sad state of healthcare in Russia. I wonder if she'll also wind up as being another of Putin's "casualties"? |

And a worrying report in this weekend's New Scientist. Coronavirus seems to reach the brain. What could this mean for us? * The print edition is even starker: "Far from just affecting the lungs, covid-19 seems to cause a host of neurological problems". I'd been thinking for a while that the erratic judgements of UK figures like Dominic Cummings and Boris Johnson might have a medical root cause. I'm much reinforced in that view: my solution would be to furlough them until proven mentally fit again. * New Scientist is paywalled, but I have a subscription - I'll try to pull out a longer summary later (got to go out soon). |

As Brazil takes a breather its now the 2nd country to pass 500,000 cases while Russia was the 3rd to pass 400,000 and Chile will soon be the 13th country to join those who have passed 100,000 cases. India did its job on both Germany and France leaping into 7th place while Peru plucked 10th spot from Turkey and is now in hot pursuit of Germany and France. Mexico now has its sights on Canada's, but there are still far too many others quickly rising through the ranks. |
