Maybe they do and why not. Many drugs comes from very surprising sources that already can be find in the nature. Like penicillin that was discovered by accident by Alexander Fleming in 1928. However penicillin "only" kills bacteria, not viruses. |

Nothing strange in using nature for medicines. Willow bark contains salicin, a compound similar to aspirin. Digitalis from foxgloves, good for heart conditions even if it is toxic. |

Reports on the wire of Gilead trials of Remdesivir in China were a failure...... Gilead antiviral drug remdesivir flops in first trial ....So if Hydroxychloroquine is not the answer....... Note: this is a very early trial and needs further corroboration along with the many trials of the combination of both therapies. This is just a stopgap measure to save those already in jeopardy. A true rna anti-vaccine still needs to be developed, thoroughly tested, and deployed worldwide before we're out of the woods. ![]() "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

It will take at least one year to develop a COVID-19 vaccine as scientists believe. Prophylaxis maybe will be found earlier than that. Who knows? Not even WHO knows. As for me I think we are seeing that the spreading of the corona virus is catching down for now for what ever the reasons. |

If you include "probable deaths"—cases where infection was not confirmed by virus tests but suspected based on symptoms and circumstances—the crude CFR rises to nearly 11 percent. By comparison, the national average is currently 5.7 percent. ![]() "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

There are a lot more social distancing in LA then in NY. Cars, public transportation all different. It's the very same here in Sweden. It's Stockholm and some counties around it that are suffering the most. Otherwise not. |

One of the "comorbidities":... You are a couple of decades behind on Los Angeles and smog. Until King Donald said CARB (California Air Resources Board) could not require cleaner cars, Los Angeles air was nearing the top of the cleanest big cities. It long ago ceased being the dirtiest. When I was a young'n in LA you had to be careful to not try to suck in a full lung of air, or it burned as bad as a heart attack. Last couple decades breath as deep as you want, no issue. It is one of the best environmental success stories on the planet with the clean cars, never mind the replacement of old aging coal fire electric plants with natural gas, the near total elimination of hydrocarbon emissions from the several large oil refineries in the Los Angeles Basin, the ending of trash incineration, and the very many other changes put in place by CARB and SCAQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management District) in the decades. It is worth every penny. But, Pasadena/Glendale and Long Beach both have huge numbers. Pasadena/Glendale is at the north end of the basin, next to some of the highest ridge lines and as such suffer the brunt of the dirty air generated from the entire basin, when onshore winds blow, and they do for most of the year, LA's natural air conditioner. Now why Long Beach at the ocean side? Huge container port - ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach are the busiest container ports, scads of diesel truck engines at idle for hours at a time waiting for an ocean going multi-modal container to be put on the chassis. Every ship in port running their ships engines to generate electricity for the ship, flags from all over the third world, so their engines have no pollution control, so the local generated smog hits. Now you have some true local knowledge. As to NY vs. CA you are likely right, cars vs. petri dish subway cars. Saw a meme, "if you are close enough to smell my fart, you are too close for social distance." I think that pretty well sums up the situation on a subway car. One person sick gets on and by the next stop nearly everyone will have it. Data I've seen for NY shows almost all cases in the NYC area and upstate as minimal. Some people only process visually https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ2NMD3VWio |

I hope Trump bans the sale of disinfectant after his irresponsible (dangerous) remarks about injecting it yesterday. |

I hope Trump bans the sale of disinfectant after his irresponsible (dangerous) remarks about injecting it yesterday. Trump's deadly dangerous comments about disinfectants and light and heat are beyond incredible. I'm in disbelief. He really must be senile and desperate. Or simply senile and unaware or uncaring. His senile "you-know-what" comment whilst pointing to his head also suggests that he knows for himself that he is lost for words... As for the official that lead up to Trump trumping up such deadly ridiculousness... Phew, what an invidious position to suffer! I guess no one could have guessed that such craziness could ensue! First an antimalarial drug was taken 'out of context'. Now disinfectants! What Trump-ism next?! And how many more of the population are (fatally) misdirected by 'as-seen-on-TV' Trump? There has to be a law against such fatal incitement and dangerous recklessness. The consequences of those Trump comments are clearly not in the public good. Incredible. Only in the USA? I hope Trump bans the sale of disinfectant after his irresponsible (dangerous) remarks about injecting it yesterday. Unfortunately the average science IQ of a MAGA hat wearer does not know that. Every distributor of those products has had to issue statements to not follow King Donald's orders because they will get lawsuits from the families of the Darwin award winners who believe in King Donald. |

Long Beach Yep, '73 was bad. A little history ... Good summary of health effects, and history of control, and some bad episodes worldwide. Really should read the health section and think about how it would apply Covid-19 https://www.aqmd.gov/home/research/publications/smog-and-health-historical-info The symptoms are familiar to all those who live in cities where the air is polluted: aching lungs, wheezing, coughing, headache. Millions of residents of the South Coast Basin (which includes Los Angeles, Orange, and parts of San Bernardino and Riverside counties) breathe dirty air some one-third the days of the year. A reminder that sounds a lot like a Covid Stay at home from back in the '70's https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-obama-smog-20150803-htmlstory.html If a Stage 3 alert had been predicted, the article said, "all commercial and industrial establishments would have been required to close down, as on a national holiday, and all motorists would have been requested to leave the highways." A article from 2015 on how much better it is noting then it has been a decade since the last smog alert had been issued, add another five years to today. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-california-pollution/drought-warm-weather-bring-smog-day-memories-in-california-idUSKBN0MN16U20150327 Years of tight environmental rules improved California air quality so much that the state has not issued a smog alert in a dozen years. |
