Slovenia has jumped into 92nd place as Georgia jumps up to 88th, Bosnia and Herzegovina (78th) is picking up the pace to try and avoid being shuffled down the pack further while Myanmar has made it into 75th place as they begin their trek to close in on the next pack that Tunisia has just caught the tail end of. Jordan has jumped into 70th spot as Hungary moved into 67th.

Costa Rica became the 47th country to pass 100,000 cases only to have Switzerland come along and knock them out of 47th spot as Sweden puts in another burst to retake 43rd, Portugal is now up to 41st while Romania became the 31st country to pass 200,000 cases. "Even after the coronavirus pandemic has ended and our normal lives are resumed, I think many people around the world have been traumatised by this experience and might have fears for future viruses.

Well yesterday's reporting period saw the world's total case numbers pass 44.2 million while deaths passed 1,171,000. :-(

The U.S. (1st) has now passed 9 million cases along with over 232,000 deaths while India (2nd) passed 7,988,800 cases with over 120,000 deaths as Brazil (3rd) records over 5,440,900 and almost 158,000 deaths. Russia (4th) now has France (5th) closing in on it followed by Spain, Argentina and Colombia while the U.K. has returned to 9th place as Mexico holds onto 10th spot.

Malaysia kicked Australia out of 86th place followed by North Macedonia that has taken 87th, Bulgaria has moved into 78th, Jordan is now up to 64th spot while Hungry jumped into 61st, Lebanon is now in 58th as Austria passed China for 54th spot and Belarus has taken up 50th place.

Switzerland is now in 39th place while the Netherlands moves up to 26th, Belgium has taken up 24th as the Ukraine moved into 22nd spot, Bangladesh became the 18th country to pass 400,000 cases and Germany has taken 16th place.

Asia still leads the regional count with over 13,312,000 cases (they do have the largest population count as well) with North America coming in 2nd with over 10,814,000 infections, but leads the death count with almost 346,000, followed by South America with over 9,465,000 cases while Europe is closing in fast with over 8,857,000 as Africa comes in 5th with over 1,747,500 while back in a lonely 6th place comes Oceania with 36,570 (but we're just a small group of islands).

Anyhow that's enough for me today and I'm going off to recover from this morning's mowing.

Well it has happened, the daily case count has passed 503,000+ (with almost half of those coming from Europe) taking the world's total past 44,740,000 along with over 1,178,500 deaths. :-O

The U.S. continues to lead the way with over 80,000 daily infections along with over 1,000 more deaths taking their totals past 9,119,800 and 233,000. India has passed 8 million infections and 120,000 deaths while Brazil continues to idle along in a clear 3rd place by cases and 2nd by deaths as Russia's 4th spot becomes increasingly under threat as France powers along at over twice Russia's daily cases count. Meanwhile the U.K. (9th) is on course to break the 1 million mark in 3 days while Mexico became the 10th country to pass 900,000 cases.

Anyhow I'll head back down the list.

Lithuania has surged up to 104th place and will be the next into the top 100 while Angola (111th) and Sri Lanka (112th) are in a race to see who'll be the next. Little Luxembourg has jumped up 2 spots to 98th while Slovenia did the same to gain 88th place, Georgia has moved up another spot to 84th as Serbia takes over 80th, Bulgaria is now up into 77th and Slovakia is up to 75th and now threatens Myanmar's place.

Jordan is now in 63rd place as Armenia takes 56th and now has its sights on China, Portugal moved into 40th spot while Switzerland jumped up 3 spots to 36th, Poland passed Czechia to take up 28th place and the Netherlands dumped Israel out of 26th. Belgium has removed Saudi Arabia from 23rd place while Indonesia became the 19th country to pass 400,000 cases and Italy has taken 13th place from Iran.

More moves are expected as many other countries are closing large gaps pretty quickly in this wild wild world.

The last reporting period was another record breaker with over 545,900 infections being reported so far for it (there are still several countries still to report, but Europe contributed over 279,000 of them) taking the total cases past 45,313,000 and deaths past 1,185,700. :-(

The U.S. continues to lead the way with their own record breaking daily count of 91,530 along with another 1,000+ deaths taking their totals well past 9,212,000 and 234,100, but Trump keeps lying by still telling everyone that they have rounded the corner (well if that's rounding the corner then it's certainly the wrong 1).

Lithuania has jumped up 2 spots to 102nd, little Luxembourg passed Zambia to take up 97th position, Slovenia jumped both North Macedonia and Malaysia into 86th, Georgia took 83rd from Greece, Croatia leapt over both Afghanistan and Serbia to take over 80th place, Bulgaria slipped past Ghana into 76th while Slovakia did the same to Myanmar to move into 74th spot as Jordan knocked Nigeria out of 62nd and Hungary didn't even blink as they jumped over Uzbekistan into 60th place.

Austria zoomed past Venezuela to take over 53rd spot, Costa Rica finally got a move done on Egypt to claim 46th while Sweden currently 43rd) is still trying to hide their ever increasing infection rate by overly late reporting (but they're getting close to making a passing move on both Kuwait and the Dominican Republic), Portugal put in a long jump past the U.A.E., Panama and Qatar to take up 32nd place as Switzerland leapt right on past Bolivia into 35th, Romania did Canada out of 30th as Poland blew right past Israel and into 27th place.

I'm sure that there'll be a few more moves put on by the Europeans tomorrow.

Well his rallies are now being classed as "super spreader events", but maybe that's his plan, to see at what speed he can take that corner at before running off the rails. :-O

The world's case total sailed right on past 45.8 million care of another record breaking daily count of over 573,600 (with a few more to get added to that as yet) and along with a high of 7,490+ deaths (a number that hasn't been seen since last April and only 1K short of the early peak) taking that total to over 1,193,200. Europe put in just shy of 300K of those, but Sweden will push it above that when they finally report their ever increasing infection numbers, while also passing South America's total case numbers and are closing in fast on North America. :-(

Not to be outdone by India (who I thought would've been the 1st to do this) the U.S. has set a new daily case record that busted the 100K mark and setting the bar to at least 101,461 for the moment taking their massive case total to over 9.3 million while their death toll sailed past 235,000 (will they get to 240,000 by election day?), but I guess that that's just their "Dog Given Right" to spread the virus as they see fit to as many as possible in action. :-(

Croatia removed Denmark from 79th spot while Slovakia leapt 3 places into 71st, Tunisia scraped past Singapore into 68th as Jordan took 61st from Uzbekistan, Armenia breezed past China into 55th spot and Austria leapt 3 spots up into 50th place just missing out on adding Japan to that, but I guess that they need someone to pass tomorrow.

Poland blew past Pakistan into 26th spot (but they landed on the Netherlands' rear door) as Belgium also performed a 3 place leap into 20th while Indonesia removed Bangladesh from 18th place (but that will short lived if Belgium has it's way), Germany didn't even blink as they shot past Chile into 15th (they also became the 16th country to pass the 500,000 cases mark), Iran became the 14th country to pass 600,000 and Peru became the 11th country to pass 900,000 infections.

Meanwhile the U.K. is set to become the 9th country to join the 1 million club during this reporting period as France passes 1.3 million cases and is preforming like an Exocet missile as they zero in on Russia. :-O

There were a few other more small movements, but until the full numbers are in they'd only be provisional at this stage.

1 thing is for sure sadly, this madness gripping the world ATM will continue until a proven vaccine (or more) comes along and gets distributed world wide, but then just and as sadly we'll have to deal with the anti-vaccers, the conspiracy theorists and religious nutters to deal with. :-(

I was just looking at some stats and at current rates South Korea will take us out of 89th spot (by total cases) in about 8 days (but they do have about twice Australia's population of 25.5 million so who's going to argue with that?) while the U.S. state of West Virginia (population of around 1,778,000) looks to also pass us at around the same time, then there looks like a race could be on to see who'll pass us next between Luxembourg (population about 630,000 and currently 95th), who looks to do that in about 10 days time, and Lithuania (population 2.7 million and currently 100th), who is producing fast increasing daily numbers and currently set to do the job in 11 days, but could build up enough momentum yet do it in less.

Our Kiwi cousins across the ditch (population of about 5.5 million) are having a bit of a tussle with Lesotho (population around 2.1 million) over 160th and 161st places while Vietnam (97.3 million) is down in 165th spot.

Anyhow, I just thought that was something to ponder.

Slovakia leapt into 68th place as Tunisia into 67th, Hungary is up to 59th while Lebanon now has 57th, Austria put in a massive leap into 47th spot, the U.A.E. slipped into 39th and Portugal also must of got sick of being passed by others as well and are mounting a fightback up to 36th. Czechia slipped into 27th as the Netherlands moved into 25th, Poland leapt into 23rd spot while the Ukraine took over 21st, Belgium became the 20th country to pass 400,000 cases while leaping into 18th and Italy became the 13th country to pass 700,000 cases.

The next reporting period should have Spain's (6th) and Switzerland's (35th) weekend numbers added (unless there's a public holiday going on), which should be interesting, while we'll have to wait a further 36hrs later to get Sweden's (43rd), but I expect the later 2 to make moves up the list.

Will we see a daily case number for the world breaking the 600,000 case barrier this week?

So far, for the UK, our expensive "Test and Trace" system has failed to be effective, as shown by the rampant increase in COVID-19 infections that are now racing to our latest scare that our hospitals are soon to become overwhelmed...

Only if they live up to the second part of their name. I searched that Press Release for 'trace', and it turned up nine times - eight of them in the name of the organisation. The only reference to actual tracing in the whole document is this paragraph:

Anyone who tests positive, using either a lateral flow test or an existing swab test, must self-isolate along with their household immediately and their contacts will be traced. Those who test negative will need to continue to follow all national guidance.

Doesn't say who by, doesn't say how fast, doesn't say whether this is forward tracing (who am I going to give it to next?) or reverse tracing (which super-spreader did I get it from?).
