SETI@home member since 16 May 1999. I remember hearing about the project in the news and immediately signing up.

I agree, it seems like a long time.... : )

Is there a way to know not just the date but also how far down the list of who signed on the earliest?

My first posting. Mathematically, life is out there.

Besides, who said G-d created us as the only
intelligent life in the universe, let alone our
galaxy?

Raistmer think u are not the only one that had to restart with a new account from scratch due the mail address thingy, specially during transition from seti classic to boinc.

Funny is I heared in '99 from the project... but almost forgot about it. That because I hadnt a strong machine and some other reasons.

Then in '03 I build my 1st watercooled pc and on coincident a german sience tv show (3Sat) presented SETI@home in their Broadcast and that was the day where I signed up here =)

Like Raistmer, and a fair number of others, I started way back in 1999 (September or October), then moved around a bit before settling down with the account that got caught-up in the move to "BOINC-based" SETI.

Funfact: my main cruncher is doing atm the same amount of seti credits in 3 days that my 1st machine did the whole 3 years after the SETIclassic/BOINC transition from the years '05-'08 =D

thats a huge performance increase =D

Congrats on 20 years, but I've been a member since 3 Apr 1999, so it had to have come online prior to May 17, 1999... Was I on a Beta or something?

Thanks, to the Seti team. I would suggest that we all make a donation according to the occasion. We want to research again for 20 years and reach the goal. Greetings from Germany - Klaus

+1. Somehow I created a Boinc account back when it started but didn't start crunching again until a few years ago. Regardless of those lost years, the crunching that I had completed back then will never be lost. Here's to many more years for all of us!

The same here, but in my case my first account had 7 completed w/u's that took 9.5 days each to complete so it was no great loss losing that account. This current account started with a rig that could do those w/u's in well less than half the time of the original rig.

Cheers.
