I can get 3 GTX 980 TI cards for the same price as one RTX 2080 TI. Which would you choose?

My 750Ti are just starting to disappoint too much. Time to put a little money into my cruncher.

Well an RTX 2080 Ti will process twice as much as a GTX 980 Ti using around the same amount of power. So it's up to you Carlos if you want a greater RAC at 3x the power usage with 3 GTX 980 Ti's and a lot of heat to disapate or just settle for the 1 RTX 2080 Ti with a much cooler running rig.

Cheers.

depends on your use case i suppose.

any gaming? or strictly for SETI?
do you care about power consumption? RTX cards are much more power efficient than 900-series cards

I might offer another option. 2x RTX 2070s, they will be faster than one RTX 2080ti.

Huge case with plenty of room.
No games except occasional flight simulators
Power is a concern
Noise is big issue too

You have me leaning towards 2 2070’s

I think 2x 2070 Cards would be an AWESOME move! 😀

Just wish Apple and NVIDIA would "kiss and make up" and release Web Drivers for High Sierra with Turing Support, AND release Web Drivers and CUDA Drivers for Mojave - also with Turing Support.

A much better choice in the end there. ;-)

Enjoy that huge performance boost Carlos. :-D

Your present poor output from the GTX 750Ti is because it's running the wrong application, twice over. Not only is it running CUDA, but the wrong version of CUDA.
setiathome_CUDA: device 1703268 is Maxwell or newer generation, 5.x compute compatibility or higher. Cuda 3.2 or lower doesn't support these.

Please, please, please make sure you re-install the Lunatics application & make sure to select the best option- SoG, once you've got the new cards & drivers setup.
Then we can give you some command line values to boost their output even further.

Indeed my old 750ti's using SOG average 10-15 minutes a WU yours are taking around 40 minutes!

My pair of 750Ti's take ~40 minutes to complete a WU when running two per GPU.
I'm sure that running two at a time was the general advice on here but those figures suggest I'd be better off running just one WU/GPU.
Anyone?

Two or three concurrent tasks per GPU used to be the advise, but with the advent of SoG and other more recent applications it is more common to suggest running one concurrent task on GPUs like the GTX750 (ti) and then to "free up" one CPU core per GPU task running. There are any number of ways of freeing up a CPU core, but the simplest is to use the "use x% CPU cores" setting in the BOINC manager - this acts immediately, unlike some of the other ways which require BOINC to be completely stopped and restarted to take effect.

Nice card choice you will certainly notice a nice improvement with your RAC and throughput of tasks.
Out of interest what Flight Simulator games do you play?
I used to play my Microsoft Flight Simulator X but haven't played it for quite some time

I used Microsoft Flight Sim also but they discontinued support. I am now using X-Plane.

I think I figured it out. I kept updating the App but it was going to [BOINC DATA] and C drive. I have everything on the D drive. So the files were never getting updated. I reinstall on the D drive, Let's see if this helps.

Well that seems to have made a difference. WU are taking about 24 mins and not being aborted.

Well that seems to have made a difference. WU are taking about 24 mins and not being aborted.

Good to see a big boost to your output there, almost double.

When you get the new video cards, let us know & we can give you some command lines that will boost their output even more than just being more powerful hardware.

Edit- I just notices there's one more thing you can do now to give your output a big boost and that is reserve 1 CPU core to support the GPU.
Your CPU WUs are showing this-
Run time 3 hours 44 min 58 sec
CPU time 2 hours 26 min 17 sec

Which indicates the CPU is really, really struggling. Run time & CPU time should have less than a minutes difference, even on a heavily loaded system.

If you create (or already have) an app_config.xml file in your Seti project folder, copy the following lines to it & save it (less the <app_config> </app_config> and <app> </app> headers & footers if they are already there of course).
<app_config>
 <app>
  <name>setiathome_v8</name>
  <gpu_versions>
  <gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
  <cpu_usage>1.0</cpu_usage>
  </gpu_versions>
 </app>
 <app>
  <name>astropulse_v7</name>
  <gpu_versions>
  <gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
  <cpu_usage>1.0</cpu_usage>
  </gpu_versions>
 </app>
</app_config>

Once saved, in the BOINC Manager advanced view select Options, "Read config files" and the settings will take immediate effect.
If will reserve a CPU core to support the GPU. If you run out of GPU work, it will go back to processing CPU work. When more GPU work comes along it will then go back to supporting the GPU.

Grant thanks.
The cards should be here today. I am using an older AMD FX-8300 eight core.

Is it time to upgrade the CPU and Motherboard?
I like the specs on the i9-9900K Coffee Lake 8-Core.

Only 16 PCIe lanes. I'd check to see how many of those lanes are shared with M2, Sata, Optical Drive, etc.... Not a huge deal with Seti since it doesn't need a lot of bandwidth but if you plan on using it for other projects, might affect you productivity.

The i9-9900X is double to price but provides you with 44 PCIe lanes to use.(I suspect 4 are dedicated for Sata use)
