The thing that concerns me is the quote 'Mr Field claimed he reacted "instinctively"' - that's 'act first, think (and possibly regret) at leisure'.

Donald Trump - and I don't often say this - had the good sense to think again and withdraw before things got out of hand.

My instinct - and I use the word advisedly - would be to disallow people who act violently on instinct from getting anywhere near positions of real power.

Most likely. California left it to cities to decide if, where, when, who and how pot shops can operate and there are lots of very red areas leaving huge areas without legal pot so the black market continues. They may have also overtaxed pot so that black market is too cheap. Happens time to time on booze and tobacco too.

An inquiry found a lecturer gave "seriously incorrect" advice on cooking oil, electrical safety and falling from a height, according to the Times.

So teachers can get it wrong, and I trust The Times and the BBC to report that fact accurately more than some other sources cited in this thread.
