That looks like a giant sized storage heater. Not a bad idea, but what's its efficiency? Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

For its intended purpose for heating, that will give near 100%. For generating electricity, very poor. ... But, that is very useful for utilizing excess/cheap electricity to avoid burning fuel for heating. That is a very practical and useful part of the mix needed to go cleaner and greener. There is also this scheme in Berlin: Berlin preps 'huge thermos' to help heat homes this winter wrote: ... With a height of 45 meters (almost 150 feet) and holding up to 56 million liters (14.8 million gallons) of hot water, utility company Vattenfall says the tower will help heat Berlin homes this winter even if Russian gas supplies dry up. This one is a tough call - here or the "denial" thread. Energy bills still rising I don't think the average worker will be worrying about climate change for some time to come. However maybe this will force those in authority/companies to focus their minds on renewable energy faster than currently seen. |

Here's a continuing trend that may yet save our planet from ourselves: World Population Day: India will overtake China in 2023... wrote: ... population growth is not as rapid as it used to be. It is now at its slowest rate since 1950... Is that a 'conscious' societal thing? Or are we noticeably polluting ourselves to death already? Another small step being made just down the hill from here on waste plastic by an Aussie woman. Louise Hardman's Shruder invention recycles plastic cleaned from ocean. Not only does it produce a reusable product, but is also helps regional and remote communities in Australia and the Pacific Islands with business opportunities.[/quote] |

A good idea, but those southern deniers will likely object just because it is a good idea. Wind farms could join oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. The Biden administration is eyeing chunks of the Gulf of Mexico as new areas to expand its growing offshore wind ambitions. Today, President Joe Biden proposed opening up 700,000 acres off the coasts of Galveston, Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana to future wind development. The administration is now looking for public input on developing those locations, after its proposal today to make them official “wind energy areas” where lease sales could be held in the future.... |

This is where our own children put the 'adults' to shame: First bill written by children on climate education However... Do our children really need the 'old fossils' to 'die off' the way of the dinosaurs before our industrial mess gets cleaned up to make this planet better and less polluted? Solar tower produces jet fuel from CO2, water and sunlight Taking carbon dioxide, water and sunlight as its only inputs, this solar thermal tower in Spain produces carbon-neutral, sustainable versions of diesel and jet fuel. Someone should point this out to our local zero-talent celebroty who thinks he needs an entire full-sized passenger jet all to himself to go to the next town. |

Sadly, a pioneer who uncovered a large part of how our planet works is himself being recycled: James Lovelock: Influential green thinker dies aged 103 wrote: British scientist James Lovelock, who devoted his life to the global green movement, has died on his 103rd birthday, his family has said. And indeed, we have come to discover that there is a myriad series of natural living and physical feedback mechanisms that regulate our living breathing world. Shame to poison all that with our industrial pollution... Amazing what can be done when away from coercive agribusiness... See what can be done even with very modest tech: Could greenhouse farming be the answer for Africa's food security? Smart agriculture in Cameron to combat food supply issues We can go green without squandering precious water or burning the planet. The sun may not always shine and the wind may not always blow, but waves can are always be around. The wave power generator experts say 'proves ocean energy can work' is already powering Australian homes. For the first time in Australia's history, a wave energy converter trial has successfully generated energy from the chaotic and wild ocean waves to power homes.I can see how the conversion rate could be made higher, but I can also see why they didn't go for it. Cheers. |
