Amazing how much colder that layer just above the surface air has gotten to produce so much ice in the summer. :-)

Yes, it is called physics and the physics of pollution.

With our added pollution in the atmosphere, that very thin skin that envelops this planet, the conditions for thunderstorms can now become more extreme. The storm cells now have more energy and more water vapour to punch up very much higher into the very cold higher atmosphere. That then allows for a higher and far faster overturn of the updrafts that in consequence can now hold much more and much bigger hail for longer before that heavier load of hail then comes crashing back to earth...

This will get more common and worse as we further load up our atmosphere with ever more CO2 and other pollutants.

Simple physics for that.

Worse still, the new extremes make short term forecasting of local weather all the more difficult!

So... How to drag our politics and businesses into reality?

Martin, there is only one thing wrong with your explanation. The cars in the pictures aren't damaged. They aren't dented and full of holes, like this from large hail.

Yes, I noticed that from the pictures in that article.

Also note that the area was basking in 30 deg C heat. You can see the ice quickly 'steaming' off with a very low ground mist! You can also see some detail of the fine hail forming the ice. Note also the comments of surrounding floods... Again suggesting (as a guess) quantity and/or possibly an orographic effect rather than your more typical slowly forming long lived storm cell...

Looks like for that example there was much much more of the "more" rather than the "bigger". That could be an indication of timing in that there was a very fast 'overturn' there, rather than having the generated hailstones lingering long enough in updrafts to accumulate multiple layers to be able to get 'big'...

Hopefully there'll be further articles on the nature of that hail storm...

Well no they wouldn't have been, if you read the article it says

The actual hailstones were relatively small, less than 1cm in diameter, and nothing like the golf-ball sized hail seen at times in severe storms in the US.

No dented car? Hail Thor:)
But only last year there was a hail storm in Mexico with dented cars, one dead and 40 injuried.

... Russia and extreme flooding in Tulun, Siberia...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1ZEv-NTG-A
https://siberiantimes.com/other/others/news/flood-apocalypse-in-eastern-siberia-kills-five-and-maroons-9919-whose-homes-destroyed-or-damaged/

Thanks for those:

... The worst floods in the recorded history in Irkutsk region totally wiped out more than 1,200 houses, sweeping away dams and roads... Some 50 villages of the shore of Baikal are reported ‘inaccessible’, while to the north the city of Bratsk is badly affected...

Officials say over 4,000 blocks of flats and private homes were so badly flooded that they will have to be rebuilt. Almost 10,000 people lost their properties and are currently unsheltered as a major operations flies in relief supplies...

... show water rising above third floor of five-storey blocks of flats...

President Vladimir Putin flew into the flood zone landing in industrial city Bratsk as he returned from the G20 summit in Japan...

The severe flooding continues a trend seen in recent years of natural disasters on a scale beyond those in living memory...

... Elsewhere in Siberia, wildfires are raging posing a serious challenge to Russia’s emergency services.

That is a badly sad ouch!

And yet Putin has gloated that Global Warming is a "good thing" to open up land, seaways, and oil, gas, and mining resources in the Arctic...

That big stuff generally needs quite flat land to form and also is very likely to spawn tornadic activity from necessary change in wind from uplift downdraft for such large accretions to form. It is seen as roll clouds and wall clouds.

The problem is that so many countries doesn't suffer so much from the bad effects of global warming yet.
To northern countries and also Alaska in the US like in Russia it's real and it's happening now. Repeating Now!
Heck. Here in our Nordic countries before, we didn't have so much problem with wild forest fires before.
Like in Califorina Gary!

There are hail storms in Europe as well even it's not any tornadoes swirling around.
Only a couple months ago we had a hail storm here. And last summer as well.
And yes. Big pellets falling down sized not like apples but like beans denting cars.
Recently in Germany sized like baseball balls!
Oh. Speaking of hard balls:)

Thanks for that.

An extreme eddy or vortex?...

By the power of Google Translate:

On the first of July, accommodation at Tarfala research station in Kiruna woke up to snow. This weekend they were hit by a blizzard.

Snow and winds at speeds up to 40 meters per second offered the weather. Even on Monday it had fallen a few inches of snow on the site. The summer weather has not been at the peak so far in Tarfala.

- I have been working here for five years and have never been through it before, says Pia Eriksson, research engineer.

She says that it happens that there will be some snow this year, but the combination of high wind and snowdrifts is unusual.

- It feels a bit special that we have snow here when it is heatwave in other places in the country, she says.

There are extreme consequences to no ice cover in the Arctic...

Martin

Maybe the deniers are right and the climate change is not because of the CO2 emissions.
That the climate change is because of our Sun's different cycles. Like the eddy one.
However I don't buy that explanation.
There are so many evidences that those Sun's different cycles doesn't change our climate like when we started to emit CO2 into the atmosphere.
Oh. Our Sun started to heat up in exactly the same time when we started to emit CO2 about 200 years ago aka start of the Industrial Revolution. And that's the reason why we see so many changes in our weather.
Heck, we can even predict our climate temperature due to CO2 content in our atmosphere, both from today and also in the future.

Its man. No proof that it is just CO2, only supposition. Plenty of proof that raw carbon (diesel smoke) being deposited on the arctic ice melts it and many other things man does. The answer is and always has been less man.

Yes.But let's go to Mars, terraform it with the help of CO2 emissions, and then move there, quite soon, so we will survive as a species.
Eh. wait a minute. Don't we already terraforming our Earth...
Whatever. In the year 2100 there will be about 4 billion more people living in Africa.
And about 2 billion more people in Asia. No change in the rest of the continents.
(That's UN facts)
Which lead me to think. How about family planning?

Actually it's quite easy to reduce the human population that's a major cause of global warming.
How? Distribute wealth and you will see a dramatic change.
