https://www.wired.com/story/kaseya-supply-chain-ransomware-attack-msps/ t was probably inevitable that the two dominant cybersecurity threats of the day— supply chain attacks and ransomware—would combine to wreak havoc. That’s precisely what happened Friday afternoon, as the notorious REvil criminal group successfully encrypted the files of hundreds of businesses in one swoop, apparently thanks to compromised IT management software. And that’s only the very beginning. |

All that lost income. Maybe that will focus their minds on providing more secure systems. |

that's why you hire 3rd party expert firm in the first place. wait, what do you mean they weren't expert? |

Of course they were experts... ...at achieving top dollar from mediocre performance. |

which begs the question if you aren't an expert at something how can you chose who is an expert at it? |

And Canon said that while third-party inks can work with its printers, "the technology inside is designed to function correctly with our genuine inks".ROFLMAO Never owned a dot matrix printer. Didn't like them & felt they were too noisy. 1st ever printer owned was a HP LaserJet 1. Lasted a good few years until the cartridges got too expensive. Replaced with HP Deskjet 320c That lasted until 3 in1's came out. Used HP ever since with 1 exception, when printer died got a good deal on Epson's Photo Stylus (had attachment to scan negatives & slides) When that gave up the ghost, got another HP. Still got it but barely used since adding a multifunction laser printer. Inkjet at current cost gives £0.1781 per page Laser at current cost gives £0.0193 per page. Printer ink pricier than champagne It also found that 28 HP printers now use a system called "dynamic security" which recognises cartridges which use non-HP chips, and stops them from working.Well someone has to pay for that dynamic security". |

Give the razor handle away, charge 10X for the blades. |

The handle didn't reject 3rd party blades. :-) If it wasn't so stupid, I would have been LMAO at the e-mail received this morning. "Hi, we've noticed that you haven't topped up your gas meter for over 4 months. Did you know we can provide help for those struggling to pay their bills". It seems they failed to use the MK 1 computer. The MK 99 computer noticed the lack of top up's. Hmm... ...it failed to notice the usage - credit... ...so much for computer use... ...too much reliance on algorithms. It seems that Boeing's problems with software has infected too many modern systems. |

The handle didn't reject 3rd party blades. :-) They do now. Some patent latch to secure the blade to the handle. |

Wasn't aware of that. Fortunately, switched to disposables years ago. |

Another chicken that's coming home to roost. "I thought I'd ask the government, I thought they'd have processes, but it became very clear from their answers that they don't understand what the problem is.What if no GPS? If this is anything to go by... "Everybody's lazy. They think satellites can do everything," says Clive Evans, a former Merchant Navy officer who represents seafarers' union Nautilus.More than likely some millennial pops up, saying, "no problem I'll just use my smartphone" |

That was why the British restarted thinking about GNSS, when they let the European GPS system slip out of their grasp. It's also (probably) why they bought OneWeb out of administration, even though that constellation is very different to the original GPS design. Continued development along those lines would keep navigation active if a once-friendly collaborator decided to actively switch off our participation. But they wouldn't provide alternatives if the satellite system came under attack, whether by unfriendly humans, or by a major solar eruption. |

Well, as Covid & the Suez blockage has shown, global logistics is too fragile, so if GPS went down... ...short sighted numpties don't care, they've retired. I'm reminded here of the music industry. 78 33 45 moving onto Cassettes CD's Now vinyl is back in fashion. I'm also reminded about the Battle of Britain... Radar home chain bombed & out of action. ....wasn't long before it was back in operation. Doubt very much any modern sailor knows what a sextant is or how to use one. |

Are sysadmins anti-vaxxers? The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is warning of active exploitation attempts that leverage the latest line of "ProxyShell" Microsoft Exchange vulnerabilities that were patched earlier this May, including deploying LockFile ransomware on compromised systems. |

Are sysadmins anti-vaxxers? The exception that proves the rule. Clearly, vax was available in May. It is late August and infections are spreading like wildfire. If not anti-vax then lazy butt? Now as to what they stick in their arm vs. what they stick in their machine ... |
