ChatGPT goes out to play Friends and Neighbors:

What if someone mixed The Sims with ChatGPT bots? It would look like this

Has science GONE TOO FAR?

Chatbots like Google's LaMDA or OpenAI's ChatGPT are not sentient nor that intelligent. Nonetheless, boffins believe they can use these large language models to simulate human behavior...

Good fun and a brilliant musical experiment:

Grimes says anyone can use her voice for AI-generated songs
wrote:
... "split 50% royalties on any successful AI-generated song that uses my voice".

"Same deal as I would with any artist I collab[orate] with. Feel free to use my voice without penalty," she tweeted.

Her declaration comes as the music industry scrambles to react to a spate of AI songs trained on artist's voices...

... And anything to break up the music/movie/media monopolies has just got to be good for our culture everyone!

Enjoy!

I'm wondering what will happen as my Eurostar train leaves the Channel Tunnel next week. I haven't received the alert here in Spain - yet.

Most large corporations run like this: CEO $$$Millions \\ 'Worker bees' $0
Google employees complain about CEO Sundar Pichai’s pay raise as cost cuts hit rest of the company
Key Points

* Google employees are complaining about CEO Sundar Pichai’s pay, which filings show swelled to $226 million last year, including stock awards.

* Workers criticized Pichai for not taking a pay cut while the company is slashing costs, including through the elimination of 12,000 jobs.

* The company’s announcement that the board authorized a $70 billion stock buyback also drew the ire of employees.

Now we all know that technology has made our lives easier in many ways.
But every so often...
...ROFLMAO
She said it seemed the street's postcode had been used for the bookings on the travel website, and her house was beneath the pin drop.
Users had booked accommodation which listed the address as a flat in Greenwich.
Plumstead is a fair distance from Greenwich.
Also, imputing a postcode into Google maps brings up the right road, so...
...once there, using street views, one would see houses rather than flats. :-)

In years gone by I was away from home quite a lot. I used booking.com and a few other sites to book hotel rooms. It was scary how often these sites gave provided wrong addresses (street and postcodes, even suburb wrong). Most times this was caught by going to the hotel's own website, or a phone call - I'd like a tenner for every time I heard "Don't go the postcode given by booking.com but use AA12 34XY.

Faster sorting made by AI
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-023-06004-9

Nah...

  • The first example shown is an example of compiler optimization that is a compiler problem. That optimization likely is already in the gcc or LLVM compilers if you select the correct options.

  • The second example is the "AI" discovering the use of the "IF - THEN - ELSEIF..." flow that is already long used in programming languages.

Very good to confirm our human programmers are still ahead on the algorithms!

However, there is good progress there for the "AI" itself despite the unnecessary sensationalism...

These algorithms were sent for review and have officially been included in the libc++ standard sorting library3. It is the first change to these sub-routines in over a decade.

So yes, it is there now.

Well many think that lawyers are nothing but crooks anyway though ChatGPT is also exposing them as being totally stupid and lazy.

Lawyers in the United States blame ChatGPT for tricking them into citing fake court cases.

Two lawyers in the United States have blamed artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT for tricking them into including fictitious legal research in a court filing.

Attorneys Steven A. Schwartz and Peter LoDuca are facing possible punishment over a filing in a lawsuit against an airline that included references to past court cases that Mr Schwartz thought were real, but were actually invented by the artificial intelligence-powered chatbot.

Mr Schwartz explained to a Manhattan federal court judge that he used the program as he hunted for legal precedents supporting a client's case against the Colombian airline Avianca for an injury incurred on a 2019 flight.

The chatbot, which produces essay-like answers to prompts from users, suggested several cases involving aviation mishaps that Mr Schwartz had not been able to find through usual methods used at his law firm.

The problem was, several of those cases were not real or involved airlines that did not exist....

Facebook lost the case, yet refuses to pay...
Man Sues Facebook For Blocking His Account And Wins
... After the user, Jason Crawford, filed his case, he waited for a response from Facebook. However, the company ignored the lawsuit, so Crawford won by default, and a judge ruled that the social media giant owed him $50,000. However, Crawford says that the company has not yet paid the fine for “terminating his account for no valid reason,” and he has vowed to get his money.

“Every step of the way Facebook is choosing not to do the right thing,” he said. “It feels like a poke in the eye, and it feels like they’re continuing to poke in the eye. Poke the local court system in the eye. Poke me in the eye. Poke other users in the eye, and it’s time that they at least respect our legal system.”

These devices can be a lifesaver for finding your keys. Victims say they also enabled their stalkers.

.....Last month, Apple and Google announced a coordinated effort to address "unwanted tracking" amid concerns over the technology, unveiling some preliminary guidelines.

The specification will allow alerts from Bluetooth location-tracking devices like Airtags to be compatible across iOS and Android platforms and offers best practices and instructions for manufacturers, if they were to build these capabilities into their products.

The plan has been submitted via the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), a leading standards development organisation in America, with a three month grace period for comments and reviews.....
Now comes the big question, what about those who don't have the hardware to detect these things?

I know that I certainly don't.

Since the initial MOVEit disclosure, however, researchers have found multiple security issues within the software which means it's possible that the data was stolen in a different way by a different group.
Makes one wonder just how secure other financial software is.
