They may all be coming back starting next week (except for Alex Jones of course, the only one that as far as I know has been specifically excluded...

Well, the Nazis are happy about this at least. :^p

"Big Government Spy Agency" in the U.K. to 'scan' your PC'S for 'viruses' unless you tell them NOT TO

A government plans to scan every Internet-connected device in the country for vulnerabilities. The agency concerned insists it won't compromise privacy.

The scan is the work of the United Kingdom's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). It says its looking for zero-day vulnerabilities, meaning security holes that hackers are actively exploiting before a fix is available.

The NCSC says it will regularly scan all Internet connected devices based in the UK. It doesn't intend to access any data on devices but instead simply make a connection request.

The scanning software will then log any response, plus the date, time and IP address. The main aim of the scan is to build up a picture of any software version details included in the response.

Will Elon be silly enough?

Could a Tesla smartphone be on the cards? Elon Musk says he’ll have no choice but to make one if Google and Apple kill the Twitter app.

But then again he's been pretty good at throwing $'s away of late.

It was all about nothing (or just in Elon mind).

Musk suddenly backflips on ‘war’ threat to Apple.

But the E.U. does have a beef.

The EU has warned Elon Musk of astronomical fines or a potential ban if Twitter doesn’t follow Europe’s new rules.

Elon really should kick that Diet Coke habit of his.

[edit] OMG.

Musk pledged to put a computer chip in his skull as he announced that Neuralink is “ready for use in humans”.

...The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) called out the company for causing “extreme suffering” for its test subjects. A statement put to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), claims monkeys “had their brains mutilated in shoddy experiments and were left to suffer and die”.

The PCRM claims Neuralink’s testing, conducted in partnership with the University of California between 2017 and 2020, caused “extreme psychological distress” for the test animals who were subject to “crude surgeries”. According to the animal rights organisation, as many as a dozen deaths have been caused by the trials.

The group also alleges that other monkeys suffered severe side effects including bloody skin infections and brain haemorrhages after having Neuralink devices implanted in their heads. The group based its allegations on documents obtained through public records requests....

Ah, over voltage and over current. That explains him.

Yes...

Elon may thrive on 100-hour working weeks.

However, that is completely incompatible with healthy working for everyone else who also have a life outside of work...

Good sense needed all round!

A mom was barred from seeing the Rockettes after she was flagged by facial recognition technology.
A mom who went to see the famed Rockettes perform at New York's Radio City Music Hall with her daughter and the child's Girl Scout troop was kicked out when facial recognition technology flagged her as being blacklisted.

Kelly Conlon, a New Jersey attorney, was booted from the theater last month and didn't get to see the Christmas Spectacular show.
Signage inside Radio City Music Hall alerts patrons that the venue uses "a variety of security measures; including Facial Recognition which uses Biometric Identifier Information."

The law firm where Conlon works is involved in active litigation against a restaurant affiliated with Madison Square Garden Entertainment, the owner of the venue.

... Yes... That story has hit the news in a few media outlets...

Is this time to look again at the laws surrounding arbitrary adverse/selective listings acting against people?

Indeed we have the technology...

Stay safe folks?

Just another reason to NOT have connected, always on Internet of things in your home. Watch out for the "hidden spies"...
Report: Your Roomba May Put Pictures of Your Family Using the Bathroom on the Internet
According to a recent report from the MIT Technology Review, a woman’s Roomba robot vacuum cleaner recently took photos of her on the toilet and somehow the photos ended up on Facebook, shared by gig workers in a foreign country.

Reminds me of the saying "What is on the internet, stays on the internet"

At this day in future be warned, do not update your Samsung phone until further notice (unless you want a brick).

Thousands of Aussies have reportedly had their smartphones wiped after hitting go on a run-of-the-mill software update.

Poor testing going on yet again?

Thankfully they finally got me a clock to read at the top pub. :-D

All a greedily profitable 'game':

Smart appliances could stop working after two years...
wrote:
Smart appliances could stop working properly after just two years because manufacturers are failing to provide tech [software/firmware] updates...

... products like expensive dishwashers, TVs, and washing machines - which might be expected to last more than a decade - are "being abandoned" by brands.

A lack of software support from firms means devices do not get updated.

The older they get, the risk of online hacking also increases...

... [smart] appliances cost almost £300 more than average ones and the general expectation is that they will last longer...

... "This means the product could lose the features that justified the hefty price tag, and potentially create a security risk or add to the electrical waste mountain if it has to be replaced.

"Manufacturers must up their game and provide vital tech updates for their smart products for longer, otherwise the government should consider further intervention in this area, including specifying a minimum number of years that these products have to be supported for."

Wastefully 'smart' for who?...

All on our only one planet,

No surprise here:

Appliance makers sad that 50% of customers won’t connect smart appliances

'Strangely' enough... None of my 'smart' devices are allowed out to the big bad internet...

Strange at all?

What is surprising is that up to 50% of users are too dumb to realise, or are otherwise happy, about being exploited...

To be or not to be The Product.

Enjoy!

Deepfake 'news anchors' appear in pro-China footage on social media, research group says.

Chinese state-aligned actors are using AI-generated deepfake news broadcasters to peddle pro-China propaganda videos for social media platforms, a new research report claims.

The fake anchors – for a fictitious news outlet called Wolf News – were created by artificial intelligence software and appeared in footage on social media that seemed to promote the interests of the Chinese Communist Party, US-based research firm Graphika said in its report.

"This is the first time we've seen a state-aligned operation use AI-generated video footage of a fictitious person to create deceptive political content," Jack Stubbs, vice president of intelligence at Graphika, told AFP.

In one video analysed by Graphika, a fictitious male anchor who calls himself Alex critiques US inaction over gun violence plaguing the country.

In the second, a female anchor stresses the importance of "great power cooperation" between China and the United States.

Advancements in AI have stoked global alarm over the technology's potential for disinformation and misuse, with deepfake images created out of thin air and people shown mouthing things they never said.

Last year, Facebook owner Meta said it took down a deepfake video of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urging citizens to lay down their weapons and surrender to Russia....

Google's Bard AI bot mistake wipes $100bn off shares

Google is searching for ways to reassure people that it is still out in front in the race for the best artificial intelligence technology.

And so far, the internet giant seems to be coming up with the wrong answer.

An advert designed to show off its new AI bot, showed it answering a query incorrectly.

Shares in parent company Alphabet sank more than 7% on Wednesday, knocking $100bn (£82bn) off the firm's market value...

That was a very costly example of incomplete training...
