WE have seen how flawed software kills. 557 lives ruined because of flawed software which has taken too long to right. 20 years Mr Justice Fraser said he would refer the case to the Director of Public Prosecutions after evidence given by employees of Fujitsu, which developed and maintained the Horizon system, in previous court cases. |

These accidents highlighted the dangers of software control of safety-critical systems, and they have become a standard case study in health informatics and software engineering.Shame Boeing ignored that. Yeah I know, fiduciary duty. |

Everyone needs two ISP's. https://apnews.com/738deaabdeec21442492a96c61848a70 SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Flights out of the Sacramento International Airport are being delayed due to an internet outage during one of the busiest holiday travel weekends, a spokeswoman said. |

Maybe this isn't the correct thread but here it goes. Not being an OS savvy type I finally caved in and bought Win10. A while back I was perfectly happy with Win XP but was persuaded to advance to Win7 and after a while I got used to it, now I am being forced to deal with Win10. It's not quite as bad as I thought since I discovered that after installing over Win7 it doesn't appear much different except for that big search box in the lower left hand corner. Google Chrome seems to continue to work very well. But I was disappointed to find out that my good ole tried and true solitaire games were disabled and going to the microsoft games apps was a big mistake. So, how long is win10 going to last until it is superceded? Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

As mentioned in the gun thread, so much for the GDPR. It's just an indirect form of censorship. When indivduals or companies breach it, they get fined, but when the censors breach... ...it's just a mistake |

So much for a 5 year cycle. £360 million replaced Elsewhere. just came across a problem never seen before. This website cannot be displayed as server too busy. With the international interest in Genealogy, one would think that the server farm (if any) would be up to the task. |

So much for a 5 year cycle. Actually if you look a little further it becomes known that this is a non-story. The average life was designed to be 5 years and the £5 note were issued in 2016. There are nearly 400million £5 notes in circulation, and over 1billion £10 notes (2017 first issued). So that's only ~3.5% that were replaced after 4 and 3 years. There could have been ten times as many replaced and still be in line to have a 5 year average life. Roll on next week and get back to some proper news, instead of these non-stories ans seasonal guff. |

Fun. The number of probes has gone up since the attack, at least my log files say so. Also seeing more phishing spam. Now just when does Windows 7 sunset? What happens then with a state actor attempting to do real damage? Is M$ going to be forced into a longer support? In any case don't open links, close the ports, use long random passwords and use two factor. |

Ain't technology grand. :-) Haven't had this happen for some years & guy was very appreciative of the contact on the last occasion. Received an e-receipt Monday afternoon with an immediate follow up e-mail regarding warranty. At first, thought - scam. On reading through, & checking via main website details correct. Called store - ok, thanks we'll deal with it. & we'll get back to you - never did. Further e-mail received this afternoon enquiring about my recent car check. :- Often visited that area in either a class 2 or 1 vehicle, never a car. Contact main customer services. Wanted to know how I received the e-mails... ...doh! One can stick any name in front of the @ & I'll receive it. :-) If one should visit Halfords, ensure you give them your correct details. :-) |

https://threatpost.com/exploit-fully-breaks-sha-1/151697/ Exploit Fully Breaks SHA-1, Lowers the Attack BarGIT?! Isn't that what most most every open source code project is on? Does this mean that we must implicitly distrust open source?! |

Well it took nearly a month but I finally have Win10 behaving almost like Win7 which I had behaving like WinXP. As far as I'm concerned XP was the best version of Windows. I'm just not quite computer literate enough to try any of the other operating systems. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. Question for Linux users, especially Mint. Does Mint have any hardware restrictions? I'm keeping my Win 7 network running & offline & thinking of pulling a quad core out of retirement & running Mint for Net surfing, e-mailing etc. |

I have an old Core2 Quad Q6600 on its Intel board, which I bought a dozen years ago, happily crunching away with 3xGTX970s stuffed in it, on the latest Mint Tricia 19.3 64-bit with the latest NVidia drivers and all updates. (Edit: disregard that it shows 24 GPUs lol) |
