Message 1995182 - Posted: 25 May 2019, 10:44:59 UTC - in response to Message 1995173.

Returned last hour has hit 190k.

Make that 200K205K per hour.

Now 210k, and splitter output continues to fall.
Not a good combination.

Was surprised when I reported earlier that I was reporting 7 tasks every 5m:10s well it's got worse, just reported 16 tasks in one go.

Also noticed that my actual turn round time is now under an hour, it should be over 3h:15m if all tasks go expected distance.

Greetings,

Things worked themselves out. I now have a full cache on all machines including the Winders PC. :)

Although, I am seeing an occasional download issue crop up on both PCs. The server(s) will issue a backoff now and then.

Have a great day! :)

What a mess! Hourly return is now 230K and the Ready to send is empty. The splitters can't keep up. This would be a perfect time for an Aricebo file if we had one. Hopefully we will get through this patch of noise bombs soon.

Greetings,

Ok, I have to ask. What is a "noise bomb" and how do you tell if you have been bombarded with them or not? ;)

Have a great day! :)

. . I have been assigned new work but the downloads are going into backoff ...
. . But if it is still mucking up when I get home I will reboot the modem.
Are you trying to do remote control over the same internet line as your unattended hosts are trying to download data over?
That's asking quite a lot. When the compulsion gets to that level, people need to start thinking about an out-of-band monitoring line.

. . Actually no. My machines are all full PCs with monitors at home, but I was going out so it had to wait until I returned, and this time as before, when I returned the up/downloads are working AOK. BOINC was reporting the internet connection is AOK but cannot connect to the SETI servers. So I am guessing that if the servers themselves are not the problem then there is a network issue with my ISP. Makes me want a new ISP. I would say bring on the National Broadband Network except I have heard tooooo many complaints about it being slow and with poor service.

Normally these blc25s have been taking around 4 hours to process. The noise bombs are taking 30 seconds.
Thus instead of returning around 100K WUs in an hour we are sending back 240K per hour. We are processing WUs faster than the seti server can split and make them.

The data is not good data. It is too noisy. We are reaching a max number of signals.

Just gave Dslreports.com a go myself.
Test server was in Sydney- 4,000km by road, 3,200km by air from here.

. . I thought I would give it a try ... I got download 17.88mbps and upload 474Kbps, kind of normal for cable.

Hi,

Ok, I checked one of mine and it has the -9 result_overflow message. Thanks. :)

I wonder if that was part or all of the cause of my Winders PC having an empty cache this morning... ?

Have a great day! :)

Cheers.

. . A noise bomb is a WU that has such a high rate of signal 'noise' that it goes pop like a bomb and is gone. They are all those WUs that we are seeing recently that are over in just a few seconds, emptying your cache in no time flat without achieving anything significant.

Hi Stephen,

So basically when an app starts working on a WU and it runs into a certain number of unwanted signals, it quits and moves on to the next WU. Correct? So that is why I see WUs done in a few seconds instead of a few minutes. I always wondered about that but was never curious enough to ask until I started seeing "noise bombs" dropping here in the fora. ;) Thanks! :)

Have a great day! :)

The assumption is (I believe) that if the app doing the WU finds 30 signal candidates in the analysis, that the WU is "noisy", and it finishes it off at that point and goes on to the next.

How come I receive "Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance" since last 20 minutes or so, while the database is fully online?
Please someone check this out... It seems I am the only one reporting this!!!

Sometimes they take the project down for 1-5 minutes for some very simple maintenance task. Usually so quick that 99.999% of people never see it.

Looks like they took a bunch of files out of the queue. Probably more of those contributing to the shorties.
