Two computers. One updated (return completed tasks and get new one) last today. The other hasn't updated for 3 days (has nothing to do and a couple hundred to report), even though I've been on the UPDATE button a lot - it keeps coming back with "deferred". What's up and how to fix? System has access to the internet - it's the one I'm on right now...

'Deferred' is the normal, proper, outcome at the end of an update process - either deferred by 5 minutes and three seconds if it made contact with the server, or deferred by a random amount if it failed.

You need to look at the Event Log (Ctrl+Shift+E) to see what happened in between.

I updated to current version of BOINC and it updated (up/down). Now it's only running one task ( should be running 8).

Nevermind. All 8 are now running. I guess it was just slow to start the other 7.

Good. But it's still worth learning about the Event Log, so you'll know how it works and what it tells you for next time.
