I'm scanning something recorded from 2011.

Does this mean that the SETI project is backlogged 8 years worth of data in total?
This would mean we need significantly more computers to process all this data to catch us up to current day.

Please explain.

They are rescanning some old data since the applications have changed in what they are looking for and better equipment people have. There is also some old tapes that did not get scanned originally. We are also getting new tapes so there is a mix of data to review.

I can't speak to how far we are or are not behind, but I believe the data you have is just a leftover file that got missed, discussed over here.

Edit: Zalster beat me to the punch.

Very cool, appreciate that info! I couldn't find any news on that. I remember one of my friend's dad using this program years ago when I was in high school and it always interested me. Jeeze, I think that was over 15 years ago.

Two good reasons I know of to reprocess old data:

1) Autocorrelation was only added a few years ago.
2) An error with the Gaussian curve fitting algorithm was also fixed at about the same time if I remember correctly.

DARKBIKE just made me feel old ... he thought that 15 years ago with his Father was a long time ago. So in perspective that makes me Grandpa Bill starting back in May of 1999 ... I don't even have a record of what type of systems I was using back on the original Seti@home in pre-BOINC days.

I was running two hosts with AMD Athlon XP 3000+ "Barton" processors on OS/2 Warp, then eComStation with 8GB of RAM in Server Tower cases with SCSI hard drives and SCSI DAT backup tape drives.
Circa 2001 with Seti Classic.

My original account started in September '99 with a 133MHz Am5x86-P75 overclocked to 160MHz.

I kicked off my current account with a K6-2 350 overclocked to 560MHz.

Cheers.

My first computer here would have been my 486 DX4 100Mhz.
I had over 5k into that computer, things have changed so much.
