It's time to liven up these moribund boards!!

Google National Geographic SETI to find 2 or 3 you tube videos on SETI and the documentary that appears in the recent issue of their magazine. What do you take away from these--what are your thoughts, frustrations, objections, enlightenments and suggestions. I won't weigh in on these right away so as not to bias anyones opinions. I found them provocative and would like to hear from the keen minds that are regular posters here at SETI@Home.

The videos were made in 2017 and only run for about 15 minutes. Read the other hits about the current issue of National Geographic's recent article on SETI

William.

Give us some links to the videos you are talking about.

In that way we might be able to join in or respond to the media you are thinking of.

Some videos might be duplicates, but my caffeine is wearing off.

I think the NG article is very good.
And also learn where the SETI project is heading.
However the YouTube videos is perhaps not the best as an illustration. Nevermind:)
So now it's called SETI 2.0.
Andrew Siemion, the director of the Berkeley SETI Research Center, is ideally positioned to take the search for intelligent aliens to a new level.
While careful to credit the decades of research by Tarter and her colleagues at the SETI Institute, he’s keen to distinguish where SETI is going from where it has been. The initial search was inspired by the possibility of a connection—reaching out in hope of finding someone reaching back. SETI 2.0 is trying to determine whether technological civilization is part of the cosmic landscape, like black holes, gravitational waves, or any other astronomical phenomenon.
“We’re not looking for a signal,” Siemion says. “We’re looking for a property of the universe.”
Breakthrough Listen is by no means abandoning the conventional search for radio transmissions, he tells me; on the contrary, it’s doubling down on it, dedicating to SETI roughly a quarter of the viewing time on two huge single-dish radio telescopes in West Virginia and Australia.

But as far I can understand it, there is already so much data that cannot be handle because the sheer massive of it.
Well it could be fixed in the future I guess...

I get the creeping feeling that we have high priests in the SETI endeavor--sort of like unsavory characters such as AL Gore. What do you think.

Also while I am at it; why did we blast a "we are here" message to a location some 70,000 light years away. Why not inundate The Proxima Centauri group with a message or two. All of the baloney on the premise that moons may harbor intelligent life would seem to dictate this.
I am starting to see that some scientists are listing requirements for life to evolve--especially: atmosphere: magnetic field, water, rocky planet, non tidal locking, non young red dwarfs etc. This will tell us how prevalent Earth-II"s are in the galaxy. I claim five and possibly less that have produced contemporaneous intelligent life. If there were the putative 10,000 then we would have heard them by now--I claim that I am entitled to the same level of uncertainty as has been enjoyed by other prognosticators--most of which are proven wrong by induction --(where are they)

As with all projects. If not getting any results or at least some hints of results after many years. SETI 60 years, Seti@home 20 years...
