And, based on the notice from the folks at UC Berkeley, you'll wind up 3 days short of making that 21 years. Bummer, to say the least.

Indeed...but as long as they don't shutdown the upload servers, I'm aiming to have a cache of SAH tasks available that I can still crunch on 3rd April 2020...and send the completed tasks back for validation... lol

I believe that this website and this messageboard will remain open after 31st March.

That is what the notice says. I have a number of jobs on some computers that will continue to run after the end of the month, as well. I'll let those queues run out on their own, then shift to other jobs.

20 years for me too... I missed my "anniversary" four months ago. Anyway, i'm happy to become a member of the 20 year club. And congratulations to you all... and especially: thanks to the spirit and dedication of the s@h people in Berkeley.

So, getting stucked into home office caused by this annoying corona virus, i was surprised to hear from the final end. March 31 should be the last day of setiathome? After two decades? Ok, everything has to end someday. But it will be the end of an era.

Well, I prepared some machine and attached it to my old seti/BOINC account. Let it request some of the final workunits. Watch the boinc manager while crunching. Digging to the XML text of these last workunits and their results. How many spikes, gaussians, triplets etc. have been detected inside?

Pure melancholy...

Yep, I missed my 20th anniversary here too! Back on October 16th.

Started off crunching on a Celeron 366 @578MHz, IIRC WU times were 8-10hrs then! :)
My Ryzen 3600 seems to be doing them from ~2000-4900s (~0.6-1.4 hrs), & I'm sure SETI searches much more thoroughly! ;).

Well, hit 20 years today. Its been fun. And where has the time gone?

Happy to join the 20 year club before the last work units are distributed. Will let my cache run dry and crunch for other projects.

Cheers!

Checking in late—and for the first time in some years! Best wishes to all: to project staff in sifting the data, and to fellow crunchers in other projects. (I’ll be continuing with Asteroids, Einstein, &c.)

Those jobs (and the ones that were given to me as late as April 20) ran out on May 7. 20.5 years to the day since I joined SETI@Home. And the number of WUs still out there continues to decrease. SETI is slowly dying. RIP.

I hope that is the case. I'll maintain it on my BOINC account in case it wakes up.

21 Years ago, on May 30, 1999, since i started crunching :-D

But then i made a break after 1,704 SETI@home classic workunits - and after a long i thought that i lost my account and made a new BOINC-Account a few month ago.
But now i found my old access data for the SETI-Project!

Just realised I made it last year. According to the website I joined BOINC on 17 Dec 1999.

I'm sure I was crunching before that, though. Wasn't there an earlier dedicated SETI-only connection (pre-BOINC perhaps)?

No, 1999 was the start of SETI@Home, which was pre-BOINC.
