The latter combination seems most sober and appropriate. The wildcard is in your hand; surprise us, Carlos ^^Question, I used red and gold because I like it on my avatar, it make it easy to find my last post. But the official colors of a 20 year anniversary are platinum and Emerald,Twenty Years! Time really goes very fast. |

WOW Twenty years. Multiple tasks are now done in minutes and I remember when just 1 used to take at least a day and that was just using the CPU.   I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

Congrats on both your 20th year and your recent 100k total credits milestones, Cliff. As these Wow! Event stats demonstrate, even though the number of participants declined this year, their average credits augmented significantly ! My old pentium computer (used 'til two years ago for minor word processing, cat's heating-pad and dust-collecting purposes) took almost 3 days to crunch a WU, compared to 1 - 5 hours/WU/cpu^gpu today (which per *my* standards is an improvement lol) WOW Twenty years. SETI…. Goodbye. I have been a contributor for 20 years as of the 8th of September. I have been processing packets all of that time except for those times when I made a new machine. My first machine was an IBM 286 which cost $8,000.00 and I discovered it was brain dead. It took that machine 27.5 hours to process a packet. In those days when the APP was down, I would call Dan and tell him about it, for me it was a fun., I was involved in something other than my petty problems. When the 286 died I started building my own machines after all I had degree in IT and Programming so why not. In those days there was only 640 K of RAM and a staggering clock rate of 4.7 Meg! The file names were 8x3, so you had to be very creative naming your files. My first home made machine was an 80386. It had a US Robotics 1000 BPS MODEM, a daisy wheel printer, which would send print arms sailing around the room, and it took forever to print a document. On top of that you had to keep your eyes open when the printer was rattling as print arms went everywhere. My first monitor was orange prosperous, and you had to be very careful or you could burn a hole in the screen, enter the screen saver. I had a 10 Meg IBM disk drive that cost $1,500 and was left over from my 286. Now I am running a 6-core processor and I can run 18 instances of SETI, but it runs so hot that the water cooler can’t keep up, so it is throttled back to 8 instances. I had tried a Peltier cooler but froze the CPU and shorted it out. I have overclocked processors and burned holes in some. I have made duallies to increase throughput. I have had very large electric bills and very large CPU bills and have spent a great deal of money on my effort to get us off this ball of dirt and now it ends. Today I retire and pass the baton to others. It has been fun. I have over 38 million packets processed. Mike Gamble Any day above ground is a great day! |

If I stop [s]ending packets you [kn]ow I am dead!@Mike : ^^ Besides, if any of us stops crunching the incoming data before SETI@home hits the galactic jackpot, won't we at least subconsciously know that a part of us will have died (inside, a little bit)? To all recent (or less recent, or even future) 20ers -- who obviously have understood conquests are better achieved through endurance and persistance --, cheers ! :) |

Oct 2 makes it 20 yrs here. Still amazed we cruch in hours now what used to take use months. One day I might eventry and organaze an optimizemy equipment over the stcok Lunatics. So convinced swapping the gpus on my I3 (Nvidia 750ti) and my Q9700 (Nvidia GTX1060ti) HAS to improve things.....

Wow. Time sure has flown by; just passed my 20 year mark last month! Amazing how the technology has advanced from where we started with the CLI! 20 years was my "go to" point for this project, and as such, I'll probably be powering down most, if not all of my machines for a while to see what my power cost savings would be before bring some or all back online.
