We have added a new forum called SETI Perspectives that will showcase thoughts on SETI and related topics from people not directly connected with the Berkeley SETI group. Richard Lawn, Ph.D is our first contributor with an article about 'Oumuamua, the first object we've seen that convincingly originates from outside from outside the solar system. We hope have a long collaboration with Richard. Please welcome him into the SETI@home family.

This is indeed a great - and informative - initiative, and I always look forward to similar publications here, either from project scientists such as Eric himself, or from invited specialists/scientists such as Dr Lawn.

Would like to say that E.T. is out there.

I could go on-and-on about why I think what I think, but I would rather focus on the honor and respect the SETI group deserves for their perseverance and dedication, to something I myself, believe in.

My hope here is.. that once E.T. is found, it will open humanty's eyes to a broader aspect of living, and change the way we live entirely, for the better.

The other hope here is, that space vehicles that travel at tremendous speeds beccome the norm, and that human beings are not bound to this tiny little sphere in the midst of eternity.

Thank you all, and God bless.

I am sure you had hoped it would have been fixed by now. We can only hope that they will do it soon.

I would like to add the fact that the universe is not a devoid neighborhood. We're not alone! Does it make sense that alien beings much more developed and intelligent than homo sapiens would want to contact us? We can't even live peacefully among ourselves. They obviously know about our near future and don't want contact of any kind with subspecies like us. It's about equivalent to humans wanting to communicate with ants, or vice versa. The way things are going on in the world and the fact that intelligent aliens can move forward or backwards in time and know what is about to happen to mankind leaves me to think there is no reason to contact us. We won't be around much longer at this rate. Give or take 10 years is my bet!

Saludos

There are presumably civilizations in space at various levels of technical development, some more advanced than we, some less so, and some at about our level. The latter two groups could be quite vulnerable, if we, one day, ventured out into interstellar space with an unenlightened, aggressive attitude.

Perhaps extraterrestrials would wish to contact us soon, in order to gradually help us to become peaceful, responsible citizens of the galaxy. If they have some notion that we might one day be able to visit other inhabited worlds, this would be only good sense on their part.
