I am currently running Boinc-SETI on my computer. However, I cannot recall the email I used to sign up and hence cannot do a password to sign back into my account. Is there any way to recover what email I used to sign up since boinc is currently running on my computer? |

Go to the BOINC data directory, default a hidden directory on Windows at C:\Programdata\BOINC, so fill it in in Windows Explorer and hit Enter Open account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml with Notepad, can even be done with a browser. Select and copy (CTRL+C) the 32 character hexadecimal number from the authenticator tags. Close the account_*.xml file, if done with Notepad and it asks if you want to save changes, tell it NO! In a browser, go to https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/get_passwd.php and paste (CTRL+V) the hexadecimal number into the "email" path, then hit OK. You will log in immediately and can now change password, check your email address etc. |

Thanks. I just tried this with the 32 character #, but got the error no such user. There is not account associated with the email address (even though I entered the hexadecimal number). |

You made sure you only copied the number, there wasn't a > before or < after? You say your BOINC is still working, what is the user name it works for? Or better yet, can you post its start-up messages (CTRL+SHIFT+E), the first 30 or so lines? It's not possible that an account exists with no email attached to it, because the email is the unique identifier for the project. Without an email address your BOINC would not be able to get work or return it, because with each scheduler request a hashed form of your email address is sent to the server. If your email address would not exist in the project server's database, your BOINC would not have the Seti project added. |
